Going to Vegas and need some help.

I am a beginner at this stuff, just an FYI. So im going to vegas and would like to listen in on all the activity this coming weekend. I got the radio shack PRO-106 scanner. Can you guys help me finding the most current freqs for police, vice, casinos, and all that good stuff? I will be at the Luxor and have read they the system they use can not be scanned? Your help is much appreciated, even if its a reply with links to some more info on vegas freqs. Again, im new at this and still need to read up about trunking and all that. thanks for your help!!

In some posts it shows Luxor using Nexedge, a system that scanners don't receive.

Right here at RR you can go to the home page and click on the left side of the home page under Radio Features then click on "RR Database" then click on "NV" then click on "Clark" county, or any county you want, to get, in this case, Clark County:
Clark County, Nevada (NV) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

There are pages of great lists there.

I'd be careful with carrying a scanner on a casino floor. Some casino's have no sense of humor with any kind of radio recievers. I have a friend who was a Ham who was in Vegas and was walking down on the strip with his Icom ham rig. He stopped to play a quick hand of blackjack with his wife. He hadnt even removed it from his belt but had it on his hip.Within about 10 minutes He was escorted from the table and questioned by securty why he needed a radio. He explained he was a Ham and showed a copy of his liscesnse he kept in his wallet. They were very professional and could understand but they were sent when someone saw something suspicious on a camera saw they and sent two officers to investigate. They said it was probably best to leave his radio equipment in the room when on the casion floor.

Honestly, when I was there I never thought about bringing it to the casino floor.

yeah i just want to have it in the room to listen do while i relax. just wonder how the reception will be?

should be fine. I had a RS expendable antenna, RS 800MHz antenna as well as a Diamond RH77. I don't remember which I used, but we were a few floor up and reception was pretty good.

I'm heading there soon also with a Pro-106. You are in luck already and didn't even pull the slot handle yet...lol
I attached my file. We are going to Death Valley as a side trip. That is the reason for Bank #20

AWESOME thanks!!. BUT, i returned the 106 for the pro-164 to save some money. can this file be used with the pro-164? if so, how? thanks!

No, not directly. But with a little work you can transfer it manually. Just download the WIN500 trial program which will work for 15 or 30 days. Then open up the file with the program. Once it is open you can export the whole file to an excel spreadsheet and then take what you want and paste it into the program for the radio you have now.

If you traded a digital in for an analog only, you may miss some traffic on the Fed. frequencies...what I heard there was all digital.

Yeah pretty much nationwide, all fed stuff is going completely digital.

I took a look through your program. Looks like it was a lot of work! It is very complete for the Las Vegas area.

In looking at Scan List #20 I noticed a lot of errors. Many places where you programmed the input frequencies just below the output. I can't think of this being useful, in fact it is a hindrance in this area. Your scanner may lock onto a unreadable signal from a mobile unit, while missing the clear signal from a repeater. You also have a lot of mislabeling and other errors with the federal, state, and local agency systems in Inyo and Mono Counties. I've been a Mono County resident for 28 years and travel in Inyo County including camping trips to Death Valley 1-3 times per year.

I don't have the time right now to review your file in detail, but may have some time later today or this evening. I"m picking up a friend at the Reno airport late tonight and may be able to look at it this evening.

If you would like me to do this let me know, if not I won't take the time to do so.

EDIT P.S. I noticed you don't use the LED color display feature much at all. Maybe one frequency or talkgroup. I find mine highly effective and not at all like the bells and whistle feature I thought it would be. I've set up all my files with green for natural resource agencies, red for fire, light blue for EMS, blue for police, orange for state highway agencies, white for municipal services, and yellow for county and local roads/public works. Sometimes while mobile and even at my desk, I can't get a good look at the screen, but see the color and figure out what I just heard based on the color. When I have a frequency that I don't hear often or something I'm trying to verify I put a very long delay and a high-low alarm on it. I think all the "bells and whistles" features of the PSR-500/600 have been most useful.

Wonderful , that would be great if you can assist on the freqs. Actually the freqs I have in that bank came right from this forum and mostly from your posts! Great info for me. I understand what you mean with the input freqs. Sounds like a plan to change that.
I am N1MLZ .. maybe we could hook up on a repeater out there. Sounds like you are pretty close. We are driving up to Scotty's Junction first and starting from the North end and working south. We were there about 10 years ago and covered most of the soutern points of interest so we are starting at the North end this trip. Is that anywhere near your QTH?
