Default NSRS, Mt. Irish Site

NSRS has a site on Mt. Irish, west of Hiko. Freqs used are the ones listed for 'Tempiute'. (The Tempiute site is not active). Low power, coverage intended for the area around Ash Springs, Hiko, ET Highway. "Donor" site is Currant Mountain. Carries NHP traffic w/ LV talkgroups.

Thanks, good to know. With the frequencies being the same as Tempiute, and it being so close to Mt. Irish, we would not have known. I would assume that this is a permanent relocation then. The BLM has or had a repeater on Irish, but I can't seem to find my current info for that system.

What do you mean by donor site? My understanding of such an arrangement is when a system uses microwave links as a backbone and then uses 400 MHz links at "satellite" sites that are not on the backbone. This for federal systems such as the Forest Service and BLM. I was under the impression that EDACS systems had microwave to each site but I also know that Irish is not on the state's backbone system. If you understand how one EDACS site links to its "parent" site I would like to hear. I hadn't given any thought to this until I read your post.

Default Donor site

Exsmokey,
I was there when the equipment was installed, so I got a little input on the subject...
Some of the sites are essentially 'dumb' repeaters - in this case Mt/ Irish receives 4 channels from Currant Mt. and retransmits on 4 different freqs. Users have a different LCN set but hear the control channel from the donor site. Really, no other bands involved at all.

There are two installations on Mt. Irish, one is BLM and one has NSRS and Lincoln Co. SO, among others. LCSO output is 154.68. BLM can't help but try Ely District freqs.

Thanks for this info. I already know the BLM frequencies, I just can't seem to place the latest system map (2009) I have.

So is Irish to be a permanent replacement of Tempiute?

I can't find a map of the Nevada State microwave system, do you have any thoughts of how to obtain one? I have one that is more than 20 years old and it does not show Currant as a microwave site. No surprise here as the network used to only carry analog VHF High and Low sites. The NSRS must have required the addition of many sites.

I'm sure the Mt. Irish installation is as permanent as they get. I don't know about maps, what I did was to look thru all the RR site info, got lat/lon for all the sites that had it available, and put those into a file for Radio Mobile Deluxe - it will show each site and you can get a picture of roads, etc... made a nice reference map.
