I've read everything I can read on trunking programming.

I'm trying to receive NHP signals in the Reno/Washoe County to Fallon/Churchill county areas. Here's what I've done.

Bank 0 is set for EDACS. The Bank is closed.
I have the following frequencies programmed in on Bank 0:

851.01250 156.7 PL 8CALL90D 8CALL90D FM Law Talk
851.51250 156.7 PL 8TAC91D 8TAC91D FM Law Talk
852.01250 156.7 PL 8TAC92D 8TAC92D FM Law Talk
852.30000 156.7 PL ST A TA ST A TA FM Law Talk
852.51250 156.7 PL 8TAC93D 8TAC93D FM Law Talk
852.53750 156.7 PL UTIL TA UTIL TA FM Law Talk
852.56250 156.7 PL HPAIRTA HPAIRTA FM Law Talk
852.58750 156.7 PL ST B TA ST B TA FM Law Talk
853.01250 156.7 PL 8TAC94D 8TAC94D FM Law Talk
853.51250 156.7 PL ST 12 TA TAST 12 TA FM Law Talk
853.73750 156.7 PL 8 LAW D 8 LAW D FM Law Talk
853.88750 156.7 PL 8 OEM D 8 OEM D FM Interop
853.98750 156.7 PL 8 FIRE D 8 FIRE D FM Fire-Tac

I have the following Talk Group ID's programed in (AFS):

ID# 0753 05-141
ID# 0754 05-142
ID# 0755 05-143
ID# 0756 05-144
ID# 0757 05-145
ID# 0758 05-146
ID# 0759 05-147
ID# 0760 05-150
ID# 0761 05-151
ID# 1284 10-004
I left the the first channel and TGID blank.

I selected RX mode for all the 800Mhz freqs as EDACS and turned off the sub banks.

Anything I'm missing? Do I need both individual frequencies and Talk Group ID's? Am I using the right combination/setup?

It's either not set-up correctly or it's very quiet. Thanks in advance.

Not sure where you got those freqs or who told you to program them as an EDACS system. Those are not frequencies for the NSRS or Washoe systems, they are conventional freqs that may or may not be in use. A trunked system isn't going to use a PL btw. Go to the database and get the correct freqs for the areas in question then program the sites and TG IDs.

Welcome to RadioReference.com!!!

I'm trying to receive NHP signals in the Reno/Washoe County to Fallon/Churchill county areas.
So I take that to mean you want to program this system. It is a statewide system with "sites" all over the state. I am not sure of all of the specific "sites" which are near you. If you want to receive signals from more than one site, they will need to be in separate banks, typically only needed if you are mobile.

Site 29 listed for Fallon/Fairview uses only THREE frequencies. In your bank 0, which you've already set to EDACS, program the following 3 frequencies:
001 855.7375
002 856.9375
003 859.2125
Note that channel 000 is not used. All 3 of these frequencies must also be set to EDACS. As metioned, EDACS (or Motorola or LTR) will not use CT, DC, PL or DPL codes.

I have the following Talk Group ID's programed in (AFS):
ID# 0753 05-141
ID# 0754 05-142
ID# 0755 05-143
ID# 0756 05-144
ID# 0757 05-145
ID# 0758 05-146
ID# 0759 05-147
ID# 0760 05-150
ID# 0761 05-151
ID# 1284 10-004
I left the the first channel and TGID blank.
There is NO reason to leave the first TG blank. Use all 150 of them if you need or want to. I always use the DEC numbers because they are easier to program than using the - character, but it does not matter which you use.

I selected RX mode for all the 800Mhz freqs as EDACS and turned off the sub banks.
Re-read the manual again on the use of "sub-groups". You will probably want them all ON.

The way you use them typically would be something like: sub-group 0 contains fire TGs, sub-group 1 contains NHP TGs, sub-group 2 contains Reno/Sparks PD.... Then one day you don't want to hear Reno/Sparks for some reason and you turn that sub-group off in leiu of locking out all those TGs individually.

Anything I'm missing? Do I need both individual frequencies and Talk Group ID's? Am I using the right combination/setup?
There is no such thing as "individual frequencies". The site I showed you has 3 frequencies, that's it. All TGs will be repeated on one of those 3 TGs if they are repeated for your area.

You could OPEN the bank for starters until you start hearing radio traffic. Make note of the TGs you receive and perhaps you'll want to include them in your final setup. Once you decide you want to limit what you hear to only what is programmed, then CLOSE the bank.

Note to toggle banks between open and closed, use FUNC . while in that bank (in MAN mode). To toggle sub-groups on & off use FUNC 1 while in the TG viewer/editor.

I got it to work by using the Virginia Peak repeater frequency LCN's and turning the Sub-Bank On. The Sub Bank was the big thing keeping me from receiving correctly.

I could use DEC or AFS, I'm using Win97 to program. I may switch to the Fallon Repeater frequencies.

Thanks for all the help!!
