I read that Henderson PD/FD will be at the Galleria Mall tomorrow night for a disaster prepardness drill, its suppose to last about 6 hrs...anyone know how I would go about finding out how I can monitor this exercise? I am new to scanning using trunk tracking/ talk groups etc...any help would be appreciated.

not sure how much info you know on Henderson PD/FD or trunked radio, but here is a link to the Clark Co., Nevada TRS:http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=669

It is a motorola type 2 TRS so when you program these frequencies in, you will not have to worry about Logical Channel Numbering as you would with an EDACS TRS :). Just plug them in as a Motorola TypeII system and you are halfway done!.

Now, when you know what talkgroups on the above page you want to listen in on, program them into the system.

What brand and model scanner are you using ? I may be able help a little better...

Here is the Wiki link for Motorola TRS's: http://www.radioreference.com/wiki/index.php/Motorola

And here is one for the type of system that is Clark Co.: http://www.radioreference.com/wiki/index.php/Type_II_SmartZone

let us know if you need anything more; we are happy to help :)

Clark County Disaster Exercise

I understand that Clark County will also be participating in it and that ham radio will play a role so I would also be listening to 147.180, a ARES/RACES repeater. It is possible that some of the 800 MHz mutual aid conventional channels may also be used by public safety entities during the drill in addition to talk group IDs' used by different agencies on the SNACC radio system (Clark County 800 MHz trunking system).

Happy listening

The State of Nevada will be participating in the exercise and it will also involve the Nevada National Guard. If you have a copy of the Southern Nevada Scanner Directory, July 2005 edition there is an extensive section showing all the IDs' used on the Shared Radio System (NSRS) for Nevada State entities. Just look under the agency section and note the Nevada Military Department as well as the DPS Emergency Management Division (pages 25 and 28). Last New Years Eve some of these talk groups were active in Southern Nevada. Keep in mind that most any of the talk groups showing can be linked most anywhere in the State. The information on page 24 will tell you what you need to program a trunking scanner for the system in Southern Nevada. If you don't have the book it is available at Radio World in Boulder City or at Amateur Electronic Supply in Las Vegas. I would never be without the book. It is a lot more than just public record information.
Enjoy.

I have also heard that the Meadows Mall in LV will be a staging area as well as the Galleria Mall in Henderson.

SNACC system ID 43472 which is a link between Henderson PD & Henderson FD is also active with this operation and is most interesting. It is called the "Aid Channel" on Henderson radios.

The LVMPD is using 154.2650 to route traffic to 800 Mutual Aid Tac 4 (868.0125).
Also, two more EMS talk groups on the SNACC system are being used and they are ID-43632 and ID-43696.
Thus far it has been very interesting listening.

this was called "Operation Loaded Dice" Probably some of the best listening I have ever done. I work a night job, so I was able to listen to the entire operation. I monitored mostly the ops going on at Meadows Mall. There were also suicide bombers at UMC and Valley Hospitals to furhter complicate things. Also at one point AMR went code one -- no more available ambulances. After the FD got finished then the hazmat team moved in to take readings on air and radiotion. There were unconfirmed reports of Mustard gas in the air. Also it was interesting to hear SWAT clear the building. Towards the end of the drill around 2:30-3:00AM the bomb squad had a live shot and blew a suspicious package up.
