Looks like all of 2 are already on the RR database. ( Hickison, Fencemaker ).

RR alias for Argenta = Battle Mountain (East)
New Pass = Carlin (West)
Gonconda, Winnemucca match.

I'll check the other two on my next trip out.

Edit -> Found Hickison summit, its 100 miles south of I-80, with Mt. Lewis in the middle at 9,500 feet. Not a good candidate, IMHO.
Edit -> Looks like Fencemaker is a nogo as well - might work for Lovelock farther south, but way too far south from BM valley area.

The names I gave you are what the NSRS calls them. Right out of my radio. I listed the sites in the area and what the scan list is for them. Argenta has all those sites listed in its scan list.

Think of it this way: EDACS site 'A' has sites B, C, D, E, F in its scan list, that way when you go in the direction of site D, when it locks on that site, THAT scan list for site D might be A, F, G, H, I and J.

It's like a cellular roaming list, only far less automated.

Thanks for the info. I have disabled some of these sites on my scanner (Golconda, the 3 sites listed in Battle Mountain) for quite sometime, as I never heard a peep from them, and it was wasted energy scanning them. On a whim (nothing else to lose), I'll enable all of them and add the two you mentioned, see what happens.

I have got strong signals from Toulon site more than 100 miles away, but it was mostly unobstructed terrain. (From Winnemucca south, not in the BM valley area)

Toulon Peak is one of the primary radio sites for Pershing County, it overlooks 80 from the north side west of Lovelock. It also covers most of the Black Rock Desert north of there.

Default Battle Mountain

On several occasions I have noticed DPS troopers on traffic stops taking the hand held radios from their belt and holding them over their heads and using the hand microphones. So that just leaves be to think there is a coverage problem, but if it is that bad why would they every try the hand held and not just use the mobile radio. In any event, it remains silent in Battle Mountain as far as the state system goes.

On another issue, the narrow banding rule is supposed to take effect 1Jan 2013, and none of the other country radio systems have moved to narrow banding nor does it appear they have begun the licensing process. I know the FCC database is not really up to date, but many Sheriff frequencies have been expired for a year or more, Locations of transmitters and other stations have moved but still show up in the database at locations they have abandoned many years ago. So it is all a mystery.

Finally! Just drove west through Battle Mountain area yesterday, and on a whim tried scanning Battle Mountain Site 4517 and starting hearing ELKO 2 TG coming through! Never got anything from NHP on their before, but looks like it's finally been fixed. Crisp and clear reception now from border to border!

After COM501's changes; it appears that there may be many changes since the last RR database has been updated. It sure would be nice if someone has access to a complete current list that could update the RR database.

in the RRDB, there are two Battle Mountain East entries:
9066 (236A) Battle Mountain (East) Lander 01 858.71250c 02 859.71250
03 860.71250
9067 (236B) Battle Mountain (East) Lander 01 856.93750c 02 857.93750 03 858.93750

236A's 858 and 859 frequencies are being used at Mary's Mountain, about 23 miles (LOS) away.

I'm leaning towards submitting an update to delete the 236A site and replace the B entry with this (I used this on my drive on 80west and it works). This affirms/is affirmed by COM501s post. I'm not putting 853.6125 in there as I can only find it licensed to Nextel in NV and 853.1625 only has licenses in Clark County

The New Pass site is about 100 miles line-of-sight SW away from Carlin and probably not 'visible' on I-80 near Carlin. When I return to Vegas from Reno via 50 (taking a new route instead of 95), I should pass right near it and will add any info I find on it.

Carlin West has 3 of these 4 freqs and this license, BUT is listed in Elko while the site is well within Eureka County.

While driving 80W from 278 I heard this site with a SID of 12 and control channel 856.4625

All the information I submitted is what is PROGRAMMED into working radios.

Delete as you please, I wouldn't count on the license DB to be accurate from the FCC either, since it may have not been updated. NEXTEL has abandoned those frequencies, and this may all be part of some rebanding deal.

I'll keep the 853 frequency in the list when I submit the update and keep listening to it when I scan.

Good point about Nextel. Lately I forget that they rebanded too.

The entire purpose of 800 rebanding was to shift Nextel up and consolidate all public safety at the bottom end. That was the entire purpose, due to the interference Nextel SMR was causing.

All it has mostly done is cause a lot of expense, and caused a lot of people to buy new radios.....

I added both 854.9625 and 853.6125 to the 'Argenta' (aka Battle Mountain East) site on my last round trip. It was the first time I was able to pick up NHP in the area. I did not record which of those showed up as the control channel as I was on a roll at 90mph. So not sure which one fixed the problem.

Thanks for updating the data.
