I live in the Elko area and NHP is alive and well on the NSRS. Also heard the DEM units doing a flu vaccination exercise in the Douglas county area on our air Saturday.

Drove through again today. What I didn't realize until this trip is that Elko Dispatch runs all the way down to Lovelock. Talkgroup ELKO 2 covers west of Elko to Lovelock, then gets picked up by RENO 3 west from Lovelock.

I assume "physical" location. The talkgroups are assigned with RENO tag names.

Similar to the FAA "Oakland ARTCC" which is physically located in Fremont, CA.

I believe all of the CHP Goldean Gate communications are located in Vallejo, CA which covers the entire bay area.

Many thanks to all who responded. It turns out that my PSR-800 will not properly track an EDACS system. It locks up on the data channel when someone transmits, and I hear the data channel while the T.G. is displayed, so I'm coming back with my 396XT, next time here. Therefore there is no real problem with the NSRS as I had thought. So at breakfast tomorrow, maybe I should put a bit of egg on my face?

Happens to all of us at some point. But it did wake up an interesting thread. I have some other issue that I am trying to solve, related to NHP and NSRS. Seems they are using a "site" in Battle Mountain area that is not listed on the RR database. I was able to hear simulcast a NHP trooper making a stop west of Battle Mountain (I was on the Winnemucca side of the mountain, picking it up on Winnemucca site), but once I got near the trooper (I actually passed him), Winnemucca was no longer in range. All 3 Battle Mountain sites do not broadcast NHP, ever. Once I get east of Battle Mountain I can pick up Elko Mountain site, but between Golconda summit and Battle Mountain, I'm not able to pick up anything. There was another thread where we speculated that NHP borrows the local conventional channel, but I heard this guy today over NSRS on ELKO 2 talkgroup. Another puzzle to solve.

A radio homed on Winnemucca scans Trident, Toulon, Imlay, Fencemaker and Golconda.
A radio homed on Golconda scans Trident, Fencemaker, Winnemucca, Argenta and Chevas.

You should look at Argenta and Golconda.

I have Golconda programmed, as it shares the same set of frequencies as Oasis. I get NHP hits off Oasis but not Golconda. I don't see a "Argenta" site in the NSRS RR database.

This one?
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?siteId=5417

I had all 3 BM sites programmed for a long time, but never got a hit. I'll add it and see if it works when I drive through again next week.

I quit looking at the RR DB for NSRS, since its not accurate and everytime I would update it, someone would change it again. That's the problem with it.

Use Google Earth to look for your sites, it will give you an idea what is going on.

Google Earth? Has someone posted NSRS sites on that? (If so, what's the search term?)

Well how about posting the "correct" info in the thread then where it won't be tampered with. What was the DB admins reason for changing correct info into incorrect info?

To find this elusive site, you may have to search the FCC's ULS database using the FRNs for entities on the NSRS like:
Some of the FRNs are:
0004253654 NEVADA, STATE OF DEPT. OF TRANS
0001586270 State of Nevada
0001586239 UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM

This is how I found the Las Vegas Simulcast sites. None of them were in the RRDB, but were in the FCCs DB. I drove near them, used Unitrunker with my BCD396XT and my R20 to get the LCN/frequency association and uploaded the info.

Some have more then one licenses; the site Las Vegas-Hotel Rio had some frequencies in use that were licensed to one of the state agencies (forgot which) and some licensed with a different call to the University system.

I started my search by looking for licenses in the whole county within 851-866 mhz and belonging to any state government entity, university/college system, and even NV Power/Energy or Sierra Pacific Power

Drove both ways through I-80 this past weekend. Battle Mountain West site does not carry NHP traffic. I think I will spin up a separate thread on this (again).

Default NHP Reno being heard in Las Vegas .

I'm sitting here listening to NSR system in South Las Vegas near Henderson and I'm picking up NHP Reno on 05-141 . It is obviously being patched in , but it is defiantly Reno , the just put out a reckless driver on I-80 at pyramid . Has any one every heard this before ?

It's not a patch, a unit is registered down there right now.

The primary talkgroup IDs show up when an authorized radio is actually roaming in that area. A patch will show up (in a scanner or a system monitoring program) as a different talkgroup. The subscriber radio can't tell the difference between a patch and the real thing, don't ask me how that works.

Thanks , for the quick reply . That is very strange but a neat feature. So I guess when the roaming radio leaves the area so does the broadcast ?

I've heard an NHP helicopter that was airborne down in Clark County, while I was in Elko County, hundreds of miles north. I believe the copter was based in the north and made a run south. This same thing happens in the Utah radio system - sometimes hear I can hear a trooper that is 250 miles south of me.

However--RENO 1 (05-141) is supposedly not on NSRS but on Washoe County system. At least that's what some are saying around here.

Last edited by tahoekid77; 11-14-2012 at 11:38 PM.. Reason: RENO 1 TG via Washoe ?

No more traffic on 05-141 as of 9:00 pm PST . When I first noticed it was broadcasting traffic from Reno , there was a pursuit on 05-126 on HWY 160 between Pahrump and Blue diamond . I don't know where it started but it was headed south , maybe a NHP Helicopter from up north helping out ? Picking up from them.
Either way it's not talking any more was interesting while it lasted . Thanks for the quick reply's.

Washoe County's system has TGs in common with the NSRS and is part of the same system.

NV Energy does not use the Washoe County system, but most state agencies 'share' the WC sites.
