I heading to Vegas and the Mesquite areas over the next few weeks and have questions....

The Motorola Type II system is migrating to a Phase II P25 system. How much of the old system is on the air still and are there talkgroups on one or both systems in Phase I digital mode as i am using a Pro 96 handheld and 2096 mobile.

Also are there any agencies near the Mesquite/Bunkerville/Moapa Valley areas on SNACC or any IR sites to monitor for that matter.

Programming suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

The current Motorola Type II system is migrating to a P25 Phase I system, not Phase II - at least I've never heard anything about Phase II in our area except for LVMPD. The SNACC P25 Phase I system is up and running and units are being moved over slowly but it's in progress and of course there's an RR database entry for it in progress as well:

Southern Nevada Area Communications Council (SNACC-Project 25) Trunking System, Las Vegas, Nevada - Scanner Frequencies

As for how much of the "old" analog system is still there, basically the answer is "all of it" because while the changeover is in progress the new and old are working together - it's practically a simulcast system at this point because some of the agencies are transmitting the same content on analog and P25 at the same time in my experience, especially with North Las Vegas PD and Fire activity.

The changeover will take a long time to get things done and I'm sure even when it is they'll keep the analog system up and running probably for at least a year afterward just in case. My current Unitrunker counts are 425 TGIDs (and that ain't all of them, just what I've actually had activity on) and 6703 RIDs (and obviously that's not all of those either) so it will definitely take time for that much hardware to be switched over and replaced.

Use the info at the link above as a starting point (if you didn't already know about it) and go from there I guess.

Mesquite Fire and PD are both on the LVMPD system and both are encrypted. NHP in the Mesquite area is on the state system and should be in the clear. Clark County Fire in the area is not busy and would be on the Clark County Rural VHF channel (Bunkerville Repeater). No SNACC towers or users in the immediate area that I am aware of (MM 93 area of I-15 is the closest I know of).

Mesquite Talkgroups

Could you submit the talkgroups for those encrypted PD and FD to the database? Helps to narrow down the unknowns even if we can't hear them.

I unfortunately do not know the Mesquite Talkgroups. I do know Mesquite has 8 total (3 Fire, 4 PD, 1 shared). My radio only has the channel names and no talkgroup ID's. I unfortunately don't have access to them either.

Actually looking at the radio...apparently there is at least 10 talkgroups (I was looking at an old list apparently). No indication of talkgroup ID's anywhere.....

Just noticed this morning (like 2 hours ago) that a lot of the talkgroups that were working from the 854.7125 site have "jumped" to the primary on 854.4125: a lot of the stuff I would only get on that 7125 site like North Las Vegas Airport Ops, McCarran Car Rental Ops and everything else related to McCarran (LAS) operations all the way from Admin to Custodians, the Taxicab Authority, etc, all of it has moved over to the 4125 site.

Ah, always something to work with I suppose, and a helluvalot more activity now than before but that comes with the territory. ;)

Seems that now the 854.7125 NLV Simulcast control channel has been relegated to voice channel traffic now (least the past 24 hours it hasn't shown any CC activity that I can detect). Lots of changes happening the past week, should prove interesting to see where all this leads as the P25 system really gets more activity.

I know North Las Vegas and Henderson PDs are on digital P25, and all the fire departments are on the analog Motorola Type II. What are the best site or sites to monitor the fire department s on? I will be staying at the South Point Hotel and Casino. Thank you very much.
