Anybody know if these are still used out there? If they are, any additions? I'll be out there on Saturday doing some volunteer security work and would like to be able to listen in.

Thanks for the help.

If you want a current list of the frequencies used at the LVMS for track operations, not the race drivers, take a look at page 51 of the Southern Nevada Radio Scanner Book 4th edition. A large number of them are listed along with what they are specifically used for. I have not seen the list anywhere else

With respect to this weekend's race look for the following to be active:
NHP usually uses LV 4 (TGID 05-127) for traffic control in that area.
LVMPD participates using either Tac 1 or 2 (159.135 and 159.195).
LVMPD also has used the simplex traffic channel of 155.460 which is often very informal.

In today's RJ there is a section about the race and a colored map of the LVMS showing different parking lots, entry points, and many other items that are referenced to during radio communications.
If you have the paper you might cut it out and keep it for future races.

The media also uses helos flying over the LVMS and doing a search of the media freqs. in the 450-451 and 455-456 MHz ranges might be very informative. Nellis Tower on 132.550 MHz is often very active during major races at the LVMS due to aircraft operating in its airspace.

Happy listening.

Looking at the book it shows 25 frequencies for the facility and specific uses for 16 of them.
Comparing with what shows in the book many of the frequencies in it for the LVMS do not show on that web site that you mentioned. This appears to have come from someone with connections with the LVMS or their contract communications service provider given the usage for the first 16 channels.

This is true. I always like locally produced publications compared with web sites that exist some distance away from the monitoring area. The local book has items in it that first appeared in the book and not on someone's web site. I also dislike any web site that copies out of someone's book as seems to be the case from time to time. Independant verification is lacking with some sites before republishing information. Enough said.

I just spent my whole lunch hour driving to AES to pick up the Southern Nevada Radio Scanner Book and I couldn't be happier. I was a little skeptical when I first saw it but now that I've looked through it I'm totally amazed at the amount of content it has. I wish I would have gotten it sooner.

I was very happy when I procured my first copy. The book seems to get bigger and better after each new edition is released. AES and Radio World are also kind enough to give out update sheets to those who have purchased the publication.

I could have done some serious damage in that place. I saw so much stuff that I wanted. At any rate, thanks for pointing me in the right direction toughlife.

Yes, AES has lots of "toys" for adults and if you want to see something unique in terms of largely used radio equipment take a drive to Radio World in Boulder City (just inside the city limits on your left as you enter via US93). There is no place quite like it. They also sell the scanner book.

I used out there to get the scanning guide before AES had it. I enjoy talking to the owner. Nice guy.
