I haven't made the move to anything digital yet and still use an analog Yaesu FT-7900. Most of the entertaining frequencies have moved on and, aside from amateur bands, my radio is mostly quiet. I've tried researching the site references, but I'm either doing something wrong or the information is out of date. Can anyone recommend any entertaining frequencies that can still be heard on analog radios like mine?

I'm out shooting often and would really like to listen in on Southern Nevada BLM, but have yet to locate a good frequency and tone. The Sky Combat Ace pilots flew low over me recently. I have them at: 123.150, but I only hear static.

Here's what I have so far so you can have a better idea of my level of boredom. :
National Park Rangers: Rx: 170.050 Tone: 107.2
DEA Tactical (been quiet for a while): Rx: 419.500 Tone 156.7
Papillon Helicopter tours: Rx: 153.0125 Tone: 127.3

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I already have a few added to my radio software and will upload them to the radio first thing in the morning.

I have the McCarren helicopter air control as: 123.825. That works just fine. I have some of the tour helicopter/air frequencies as:

Sky Combat Ace: 123.150. I can't get that to work. Just static.

I have Landmark, Maverick and Grand Canyon Tours all using 129.600. That can't be right, is it? I found those researching threads in these forums. None of them work for me either. Just static.

The only one that works is Papillon Tours on 153.0125 / 127.3.

Thanks again for all the help. I was really bored of listening to taxi companies and school buses.

You know this, I know this, but for some reason the State of Nevada labeled these VHF interop freqs 8TAC##

They're even referred to as 8TAC## on-air and in official documents Ive posted in other threads

I didn't know that. I've had amateur radio for years, but my knowledge is still elementary at best. Using context, I'm assuming they are fire frequencies.

A couple of the frequencies you mentioned in your first reply were tagged as "MPL". I searched for more information, but didn't find anything specific. Is that a tone? My Yaesu didn't have any options listed as "MPL".

Multiple PL meaning multiple tones are used. With the Nevada Division of Wildlife, you will usually see C71.9 but once in a while C110.9 comes through. So if you set it to C71.9, you wont hear the C110.9 station reply to C71.9 so I just leave tone decode on search.

Mine is an older radio. Not sure if it has the capability to continuously search.

With most of the others you listed, they begin with a "C". I was guessing that meant "Continuous" something, so I set my radio to "Tone". Does that sound right?

Here are the tone options of the Yaesu FT-7900.

None
Tone
T Sql
Rev CTCSS
DCS
D Code
T DCS
D Tone

Here's another one I just found: Circus Circus Security: 451.575 754 DPL.
Security was just following a guy suspected of pick-pocketing. Another security officer was on hooker patrol on the industrial side of the property.

C means CTCSS -- on your radio its Tone to solely transmit or TSQL to transmit and receive a tone.

That 754 DPL you mentioned is DCS aka Digital Coded Squelch which is a newer, digital version of CTCSS.

I personally type C71.9 or D754 because PL and DPL are trademarked by Motorola so not everyone can use those terms plus they save a couple characters making it Twitter and SMS friendly.

I have no clue what those other tone settings on your rig are

I'll make adjustments to my programming and see if that works any better. Thanks again for all the help without being condescending. After reading through many threads, others seem to like to give the impression they are always the smartest guy in the room.

There's an easy way to tell if you're talking to an expert or a faker
How to to tell if you're talking to an expert or a faker - Business Insider

Ive been in the hobby over 30-years, have read dozens of books on the subject and I still learn new stuff every day. Chances are if someone is talking down to you they dont know jack and their ego prevents them from admitting it.

One other thing, when you program in aircraft frequencies, does the mode display AM or FM? Aircraft transmit in AM. If your radio is displaying FM, page 25 of the FT-7900 owners manual will tell you how to change it for aircraft reception.

That is weird. I have Papillon Helicopters on 153.0125 with a tone of 127.3, but FM and they are coming through clear. The other helicopter tour companies are set to AM. Once in a while, I hear a strong burst of static like someone is transmitting, but my radio isn't clearing up the static. I tried setting those to FM and/or AM with the same result.

108-136.975 is AM... above that (153.0125) is FM until you get to the UHF aircraft band 225-400 but even that is mixed AM and FM, even SSB

Your FT-7900 should have no problem receiving AM aircraft. The signal could just be weak. What type of antenna are you using and where are you monitoring from?

My antenna is a Comet CA-2X4SR. I won't pretend to know anything about it. I bought it based on the many positive reviews of others. My FT7900 is also MARS/CAP modded so I can use it on GMRS frequencies which is the only license I hold.

I'm probably a mile NW of Henderson Airport. I can hear their tower as clear as a phone call.

I'm deliberately being vague here, but in Nevada, some of the 800MHz interop channels are linked to VHF...

456.3625/DCS053 -- listen to the bartenders on The High Roller. Simplex
453.375/100Hz -- Listen to UMC Hospital security people deal with the drunks, crazies, et al. Repeater

On of my favorites is 462.350/107.2Hz It's a repeater used at the Hard Rock Hotel. During Summer days, it's used for the 'Rehab at Hard Rock' swimming pool host/bar operations & at nights it's used for the same purpose at the Hard Rock's nightclub. If a bunch of women want a pool cabana or nightclub booth, the manager often asks how cute they are. If they're fat & ugly, they have to promise to spend more $$ for the same space that a group of hot chicks will pay a lot less for. The managers also have some sort of system that shows them in real-time a breakdown of what bottles of champagne, etc. have been sold, so if sales seem 'low,' he'll yell at the scantily-clad nubile young vixen servers to push more product & if the pathetic fools at the cabana/table/booth won't buy it, to tell them they'll have to vacate the spot! Lots of other analog & digital channels in-use at other clubs doing the same thing...

You're better off SEARCHING, LISTENING & THINKING in order to find your own freqs, rather than asking for handouts, though as you know, the FT-7900 limits your ability a little.

Why don't you make your move to digital OP? You can pick up a used digital scanner for a good price these days. Life is too short.

I agree life is too short and I have the medical bills piling up as constant reminders.

Thanks again, guys, for all the input. I think I might enjoy the UMC Security frequency. I was there recently and saw a guy picking a fight, but he was too drunk to throw a proper punch.

Late last year, I was scanning from the top a of a hotel employee garage and found an open stage mic at the TMobile Arena. I heard a live Keith Urban concert, but that frequency has been quiet for a while.

Does Clark County Fire still use their VHF 154/155 mhz for fire tone out of the rural stations?
