Hello all,

Am having problem with trunking this EDACS Networked Standard site. It is the only one I am having problems with.

Have they changed anything recently? Am using BC996 and all other Radio Reference downloads have worked for valley just fine.

I am only a couple miles from their Black Mtn site.

I have the Nellis site

RR lists two trunking systems, National Nuclear (airbase) and Nevada Test (Groom Lake), the first works fine. I used RR LCN and freqs, but nothing ???. I even have it on search not scan.

Any other tricks to find you know of?

I programmed the frequencies that are in the Nevada scanner book and i dont have it with me right now to see if the frequencies are the same . I will program the frequencies you posted and see if I can come up with anything.

I will look up my records later to verify the frequencies, but note that your scanner may not track the edacs system since it is encrypted. At least a Pro-96 won't track it. All the information I have gathered has been with a slicer and trunker software.

The Pro-96 does indicate the LCN of the control channel, though with multiple systems present, I don't think that is all that useful.

I don't know who is submitting info on those systems, but I have stopped correcting RR since my corrections get uncorrected. Some of those locations on the NNSA system are wrong. If you google Hayford Peak, you can see a NNSA repeater site on one of the websites, yet it is not on the list. I suspect this is the site you receive when on the ET highway near Groom Lake Road.

If you want to monitor the ground activities at Nellis AFB use what is showing in the LV Scanner Book but make sure to program the system as a Motorola Type II trunking system for the UHF band. Most of the talkgroups are in the clear but are digital so be sure you have a digital radio.

Thanks Guys

Just very curious about this site, if it was encrypted I would still hear the garble I think.

I am not branching off from our lifeline (wonderful RR community), but any/all from RR group that lives near Vegas area and would like to refine RR database about our area, I am at butterbean89015@earthlink.net.

Not a newbie, 20+ years conventional, 3-4 trunking, a month digital. I salivated over BC996 for several months and my better half finally broke down. Bought the 246 in 2004.

The RR is the best thing that has ever happened to the "monitoring community", I think we could tighten things up on S Nevada for the group.

One cool thing I do with the SNACC system and Metro is put all SNACC input freqs (45 MHz less repeater output) and all Metro simplex in a conventional site, tweak squelch up and only hear what is happening in my immediate area. You do get a little Water District now and again. I haven't tried it, but you could probably attenuate also and really tighten up your perimeter.

Ofcourse I only do this when I have more important things to do than hear the valley continously, like "sleep",ha, or if you are trying to entertain guests etc.

Using close call on the 246 works great for me at night. I activate it, turn the squelch to the max. position and disconnect the antenna. As a result I will only hear transmissions in my immediate area. It saves having to program in all the inputs which is what I did before close call came into existance.

close call

toughlife,

I know it depends on power output/structures etc, but what is your range guestimate on a 246 w/out antenna? Do you know if all SNACC mobile radios have same power across agencies?

From using this practice in Henderson at night I would often hear HPD mobiles that were about 1/4 mile away or closer when they keyed up their mobile radios. That was close enough for what I wanted to hear. Again, I used a 246T, without an antenna, with max. squelch setting. I suspect most of the mobiles probably have the same power output setting.
