Scanner for Manchester,NH

How many minutes you are from Manchester isn't really helpful. What we'd need to know would be how many air miles away you are and if there is any terrain in the way. The Manchester system is not particularly high powered, but if you are near or at the top of a hill, you might be able to hear it.

Goffstown is a on a VHF EDACS trunk system, so you should be able to hear them for longer distances than an 800 Mhz system. Again, terrain and air miles are going to play a large part in determining if you can hear them.

All public safety EDACS systems are wide band.

Thanks for that info. I can hear Manchester but its weak. I may need a bigger antenna to pick it up better.

Lynch_Christopher: I'm using my standard antenna on my BCD996XT and picks up Nashua just fine. It must be some of the towers that are near me cause I get Nashua just fine. But on my second floor of my house, it picks it up even better cause its higher up.

Funny you mentioned that BD70 because I live near Nashua so I have that programmed into my handheld. The other weekend I drove to Manchester and could hear Nashua still very clearly with a SRH789 antenna on the handheld inside the car. Back home I cannot pick up Manchester with anything less than a Scantenna ST2 outside the house and I live on a hill. I therefore concur that Manchester's system is weak.

Manchesters weak, it's just I picked a small thing of Manchester. Not all of it. It it seems like Nashua has a system that's powerful so you can hear it from a good distance. I just think that you have to be Manchester to pick up there system crystal clear. It seems that there system is only meant to heard on the city instead of outside of it even though the site Is huge. You can pick it up from outside of the city, but it will be a very weak signal.

I hope it goes away this year. I hate it. I think Manchester could use a Motorola system like Nashua that's powerful enough to hear. That would be nice. And it would be easier to program in manually. That's what I do, but I know there's a way to get software to do it easier.

If anyone in the Nashua/Manchester area has a Uniden scanner and needs help with `software programming' the scanners then please let me know. I think its scandalous that some scanner stores want to charge over and above the scanner cost to program it.

The type of System [LTR, EDACS, 'M'] has nothing to do with being powerful to be heard outside of what THEY want to cover.

The Manchester system was designed to cover Manchester - works for them.
