Default Greystone Park Hospital FD (Morris County)

As of 01 July 09, the 115 year old department was disbanded. The five full time and two part time FF's were to move out of the Firehouse and set up operations in the new hospital. The two engines were to be mothballed and a Chief's vehicle and Utility Truck will still be used. The FF's were to do Fire Safety, Train
Hosptial personal, etc. This is why I haven't heard the morning test at 6:30 for over a week now.

That is another budget cut I guess. It did not sound like much of a fire department with only 5 full time fire fighters. How many could they have had on duty at one time? I guess the responsibility will fall onto the municipal agency(ies). Just transferring the cost to someone else it appears.

Care to set the record straight? I'm a bit curious about the department and circumstances, though not familiar with that area and facility and, admittedly, too lazy to research it myself (shame on me). Others lurking here may be the same...

Jim

Edit: did look it up on Wikipedia, not much very recent news there. A bit more at NJ.com.

How is one misinformed?
5 Firefighters does not a department make.

Considering NFPA Osha require 2 in and 2 out how could they even fight a fire?

I am not trying to make light of the agency. It just does seem that they were understaffed as are a great number of agencies.

Perhaps if you would explain the workings and what is going to happen.

There was a lot more then 5 FFs originally. Through the years, the numbers dwindled. Like everything else. Fact is, they've been down-sizing for years. And the mutual aid agreements have been in place for a very long time.
I found this article:

At one time, years ago, employees were consider FF's. So years ago they had a larger department. I remember once stopping by the Fire House and talking to the Asst. Chief that I knew at that time on a Friday afternoon and he say he was on duty till Monday morning, by himself. There was another time when
there was a fire in a electrical box in the Fire House and only one Asst. Chief was on duty by himself and he worked the fire w/o mutual aid. After that fire, things did change to include a mutual aid agreement.

If he did that in recent times, he would be in violation of OSHA regulations. A one man hero can very easily end up being carried by six.

Mutual aid? It's a one way agreement when there is only 1 employee. It means the agencies who are not getting any benefits from it are fighting fires for the State.

I know that as of July 13th, when responding to alarms in the old buildings, the uniformed members will communicate with each other on their dispatch frequency. Parsippany District 1 and Morris County Park police are dispatched to the large old building and the other buildings and property given to Morris County. Parsippany's radios have Greystone's "dispatch" and "ops" frequencies in their mutual aid banks.

Being a state agency, it would be PEOSHA regulations.

Regardless, they would still need to comply with the two in/two out standard which was adopted by NJ.
