Wow, I had no idea that Camden and Philly were this bad!
I have been listening to Philly and Camden a lot lately, since I got the new BCD396XT which is much more sensitive than my BC246T used to be. I have to admit, I've developed a whole new respect for the cops in those jurisdictions. These places are war zones!
Don't get me wrong, I know Philly and Camden have their problems, but I wasn't prepared for the truly CONSTANT traffic of one incident after another - shootings, gunfire, burglaries, robberies, assaults, foot chases, drug arrests. There literally is no break between the transmissions. And it's not like I'm listening to huge swaths of geography. I localized last night just on the north central district of Philly - and Camden overall is not that big. It almost seems like everyone living in those areas are criminals. It's like "Escape from New York." I must have heard "Officers, proceed with caution" at least a hundred times in two hours across north central Philly.
It almost makes me laugh at our local little over-zealous and full-of-themselves "security force."

Dude,,you have no idea..lol..
im in the SW,,12-18 districts..from what i hear they are the busiest in the city, and theyre pretty large, geographically,
my pro 96 is always on fire,,although it dose suck to live in a high crime district..at least im gettin my money's worth from my radio!
and yes, this city is a crap hole,,i was out with my wife,1030hrs in Center city,at City Hall no less,,a crack head tried to run a jack move on us..
you ever have to scrap with a cracked up junkie?..hit the dude at least 7 times square in the jaw-eye,face(breaking 2 knuckles),,no effect,,finally drew a blade, after beating this junkie i did,and im not overstating this,i did feel in mortal danger.
the crackhead advanced until he saw the cold steel tanto,,guess the rock was wearing off cause he fled into 13th st station,,
after that he was SEPTA PDs problem..
did im mention my wife and i were at CITY HALL?
it aint gotham,,but its getting there..

I'm in Northeast Philly, just bought a PC-106 last week, and must say it's NON-STOP. I find myself, wanting to stay on a particular channel just to see the outcome of certain calls. It's like my scanner has become a cop/crime show, only 100% real. Last night "Special Events" was going wild.

I wonder what the common denominator is in these two places to make them so crime ridden?

None of this is new. Excuse me if I reminisce but I lived in Center City Philadelphia between 1969 and 1976. I had a ten channel (or so) Bearcat scanner and crystals for most of the Philadelphia districts including 'H' and 'J' channels. Colorful Frank Rizzo was the Police Commissioner and frequently was heard on the air. At any given time something violent was taking place. It really became exciting when an officer called for assistance and virtually the entire Philadelphia police force responded (at least it seemed this way from the radio traffic).
If a crime was committed and there was a description of the vehicle, they would put a procedure in effect (I forget what they called it - "Operation ????") that stationed police cars at strategic intersections. Frequently they would spot the car and the radio traffic associated with the ensuing chases was incredible to hear. Almost always, Rizzo would have a lot to say during the action and would always personally compliment his officers over the air when the chase was over. At the time I lived high up in a high rise apartment building overlooking the Vine Street Expressway and most of Center City. Once I even watched part of a chase from my window.
I only monitored on sporadic occasions but it was almost always action packed. During flooding of the Schuylkill one summer, it was heart stopping listening to the efforts (tragically unsuccessful) to rescue a cop that had fallen in the river one night. That sequence of transmissions will remain in my memory forever. I was also able to monitor a hijacking at Philadelphia International one night when they rebroadcast almost everything over 'H' channel (I think). The negotiations with the hijackers was spellbinding.
Forty years ago Philadelphia police radio was then more exciting than anything on TV and it appears it is still that way.

I'd be interested in more Philly IDs. I don't think I can message you on here though. That or I'm missing something..
