I'm monitoring 164.91250 but not hearing anything yet in Teaneck NJ. Is this an active freq? Can anyone suggest a good, active USCG freq to monitor from North Jersey.

For 164.9125, you'll need a digital scanner to receive anything on that frequency (not sure if you have one or not). A few other frequencies that are used by the Coast Guard in the Northern NJ/NYC area (non-digital) are 157.050, 122.900, and 123.100. I also believe I heard them once on 157.100 too. However, you'll most likely have a very tough time hearing the 157 frequencies from Teaneck. I'm a little closer to the coast than you are, and it's still a very weak signal from eastern Union County.

Yes, it is an active channel and the P25 NAC tone is 293. You may want to try USCG 171.3125 P25 NAC 293. I believe this is the NJ Sector channel out of the Jersey City area.
