Default Toms River PD

Looking at the listing, Toms River PD is using P25, but is also encrypted. Is it possible to receive them knowing the NAC is 293?

Or is it out of the question completely regardless of equipment without knowing the encryption.

Thanks

Default toms river

it would be impossible to pick them up whether you have the nac code or not, all the nac code does is allow you to put in the code for the frequency, its sort of like a analog frequency as in using the ctcss codes or the dnc codes, but the difference is with the nac code is that its for digital only channels, to allow you to hear them whether there encrypted or not, if it is encrypted then youll just hear a bunch of noise but no talking, the only way you could unlock the encyption is too probly have some federal government equipment like they use to decode the terrorists and other bad people using secure radios.

The newer Uniden models (BCD396T and XT and 996T and XT) mute encrypted transmissions, so you won't hear anything except a brief burst of encryption at the beginning of the transmission. BTW, for anyone interested, the 396T and 996T don't have the NAC function.

This past Sunday I was in Toms River and did manage to catch some transmissions in the clear (but still digital). Appears there may be a handful of cars and/or portables that either don't have encryption or have selectable encryption.
