Default New Burlington Co user needs a hand

I originally posted this in the new members area

newbie (NJ) BCD996XT owner
Firstly,I apologize, I guess this should be in about three different Threads!

I am a retired LEO. My son is an Investigator for the County and works as a part-time Patrolman in for a local PD.

I became interested (again) in scanners when my son graduated from the Police Academy. I bought a Uniden BCD996XT, partly (largely) because my son doesn't want me messing with his Motorola XPS3000.

This thing is not (new) user friendly. The documentation (a CD that links to Uniden’s website) is not intuitive. I have all of Burlington County, Camden Co., NJSP (North, Central, South) and Burlington Co. Misc., systems on the scanner. I’ve been fiddling with the on board controls to try to lock out a great majority of the things I’ll likely never listen to in order to listen to Pemberton, Mt Holly, Medford, Evesham, Red Lion SP, and local Fire, EMS, etc.

If I had an easier time of it, I’d like to build a few new groups to include the above. I know I would need the control channel and the actual comm. channel for each group. Soooo....after looking over this site

I downloaded FreeScan and got my LT communicating with the scanner. I'm more than a little concerned that if I do something wrong, I'll wipe everything out.

Also, my son wants SPEN (state police emergency network?).

I am having very little success.

I want to mention that my dealer, White Dotte, LLC, has been very helpful. I somehow managed to stop the scanner from functioning at all after only one day. Chris reloaded everything at no charge and set up a few new things.. I don't want to keep bothering him. I need to learn for myself.

Please, can someone share how to create a new SP group, say containing Red Lion SP ( 3 com S?) and other key SP TGID's.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the file. It has a NJSP Troop C Group that I think is what I'm looking for.
But I have no idea how to get it set up properly and then downloaded to my scanner.

I just attempted to attach my scanners current program for you guys to look at, but I don't know where it went. I clicked on "manage attachments" below and followed the steps to upload the file. I don't see any attachment to this post.

If it did upload and I just don't know where to look, you'll be able to see that I have three systems set up, all in Burlington Co. that I want to listen to. Everything else is locked out for now. I want to add a fourth with the local NJSP traffic that includes Red Lion barracks. I have no clue how to do this. My dealer set up the scanner to my specs, but did not include 3 com South. I would like to learn how to do this for myself and I'd be willing to travel to meet someone who'd show me.

Thanks again.

You can only upload certain types of files, did you Zip it up first?

I guess being a newbie is gonna be an extended learning curve. I saw nothng that suggested compressing the file unless it was listed in the Attach Files box and it's only 375kb. Hang in there with me, I'll try again.

Give it another shot, someone will look at it, one of the first things I would do is read the programming that is in your scanner now and save it as "master" or something, so you'll have it in case you mess up. When you start playing and changing things use a different name when saving your file so master will always be there to re-load and get it back to it's original programming.

I don't have that scanner and don't know to much about it, but, I can see that in Troop C the things in Red are locked out. I also see that the talk groups for all three Troops A,B,C have the TG's from the south site (A) in them.

One ofthe things I don't understand about the scanner/software interface. I have ALL of the systems except for those marked 82-83-84 locked out using the scanner's keypad. Yet only that one NJSP system (11?) shows anything locked out in the freescan program.
I'd like to just unlock the 36560 (3-com-s) because I've been told that is Red Lion. and the control frequency, of course.

Do you know how to read a PM message if I send you one?
