Default camden city & burlington county modes

ok now i understand what the modes mean, such as e for encrypted, and a for analog, and d for digital, and m for mixed mode, but can someone tell me the difference between these modes for the trunked systems for camden city and burlington county, because its showing d and a in both counties, what is the difference between an analog tgid, and a digital tgid ? from what i heard the d is supposed to be unmonitorable ? or is this just for the edacs systems ? because in burlington county the police tgids marked d are monitorable, can anyone tell me the difference in the digital tgid and the analog tgid ? thanks Danny...

An "analog TGID" is a talkgroup which carries analog transmissions. If you have a digital scanner then you should be able to receive digital talkgroups on Motorola and APCO P-25 systems. No scanner can receive the type of digital that is used on EDACS and no scanner can receive encrypted communications.

If you have a digital scanner, for more on its capabilities and limitations refer to the owner's manual or reference material for that model available online.

The database for Burlington County is D (digital) for anything but Fire/EMS talkgroups though unmarked are analog. Unmarked are always analog.

the reason im askin this is because there is a lot of tgids marked a in a lot of systems around here, so even though burlington counties system is digital, it still uses analog tgids ? this is where im getting lost at ?

Where do you see that Burlington's system is digital? The database here lists the system voice as analog and APCO P-25 CAI (a particular flavor of digital voice); this is a more-specific way of saying the overall system is mixed-mode, and it contrasts with mixed-mode trunked systems that use analog and Aegis or Provoice, which no scanner can monitor.

Some people may over-simplify and call Burlington's a digital system when they really mean digital-capable or part-digital.

Look at it talkgroup-by-talkgroup. The only hard-fast rule is that APCO P-25 trunked systems are all-digital P-25 voice, they do not support analog transmissions. Remember that APCO P-25 defines both a trunking standard, mentioned immediately above, and a digital voice standard which may be used in other trunking types.

All the trunked talk groups are digital. The only analog channels are for the Wide Area Repeaters and simplex 'OPS' channels. It is not a P25 system.

I haven't heard anything on W.A.R. 1,2,or 3 for ages. Are they truly "dead" now?

The WAR sites are still active, they have been in the process of reconfiguring the set up, including turning on additional sites.

Don't forget the Fire/EMS dispatch channels are also conventional (analog).
