Question

After doing a brief search on this thread, I believe a new police agency has either switched over to this system, or is possibly testing it out. The TG in question is 2599 on Site 1 (West Orange Simulcast) running in FDMA mode as I hear it. One of the roads mentioned was Little Falls Rd and the Police unit identifiers are the 400 series patrol cars (411, 413, etc.) Headquarters is being mentioned as just that: HQ. I did not see this listed in the database. Anyone want to venture an educated guess as to which Police agency this could be? Audio quality is very good so far.

I heard that today as well, but there are lull in activity throughout the day where there is not a single peep for more than an hour. I see the radio IDs are changing based on whoever is talking so it is definitely not a patch from conventional side.

Some talkgroups on the 800 side have appeared in the 59xxx range. There seems to be a bunch of radio ID's associated with the new talkgroups starting around 1455x. I haven't heard much more than key ups so far.

I heard Fairfield PD on the West Orange site while I was traveling on Thanksgiving. Anyone know what they are doing?

I heard them constantly on Wednesday. Looks like they moved primary operations over to the system.

They are using the system full time now. On their radios tg 2599 is alpha tagged as PSIC 1

Arrow NJICS 700MHz P25 Trunked and Uniden 396 T Scanner

Need a little help with parameter settings for P25 for monitoring the NON Phase II Talk-groups.
I have no problem receiving the West Orange Simulcast Site which is “line of site” to my location with full 5 bars on the receive. Some talk-groups come in clear with a slight “digital” sound, however others that are received sound like they are shortened and “clipped” out with or only a few “syllables” or short word or phrase being heard. Example: “Truck two fo…, go…two eigitysev…” Its not encryption…because I am receiving words and phrases in the clear just "chopped up". I have the latest firmware for this "older" scanner. Squelch is set a notch or two above open receive. So other than buying a "New" scanner right now. Any suggestions on recommended settings for the 396T for better reception of this particular P25/Digital system ?
AGC Digtital ON/OFF?, Recommended P25 Wait Time 100ms to 900ms? Any other recommended settings?

Thank you,

Max Powers

Max...search "LSM" or Linear Simulcast Modulation. The reason for the garble while full bars is because you are probaby receiving two sites at slightly different times. Commercial gear handles it, but scanners have been having problems with it.

Thanks for the note. I have 3 LSM sites LOS (Line of Site) to my location, Closest E Rutherford followed by West Orange and Ramapo. Perhaps the newer scanners will handle this better. However, I posted my question in the Uniden forum and got some very good "tweaking" suggestions for my scanner in adjusting settings to improve reception. It's about an 85% improvement.

From N4YEK:

I would turn off AGC, leave the response time at 400ms, set the modulation to FM (not NFM or Auto), turn on your attenuator, set Hold time to 0 (zero), set delay time to 2, and under System Option scroll to Adjust P25 Level and set it to Manual.
Then on your scanner, press and hold the 'function' button and while holding it, press down on the 'volume' button twice. This will bring up the decode error rate screen for P25 digital reception. While again holding down the function button, rotate the volume knob to change the decode threshold number to get the lowest 'err' rate during a digital transmission. My number seem to be best on 8 or 11 depending on the systems I monitor. (to leave this screen once finished, just press down on the volume knob once)

Also there is a link from UPMAN talking about this issue:
Loose (Open) Squelch Improves LSM (Simulcast) Reception

I made some major updates to my radio ID spreadsheet. I took advantage of the snow and finally tagged all the DOT radios I had in my Unitrunker, along with DOC and a few other agencies. In addition, I have been trying to make things more consistent as well.

East Rutherford & Ramapo are just fill - in sites. I would concentrate just on West Orange. What you are having occur is reception of numerous towers within the West Orange simulcast zone. The other two zones you mentioned should be on different frequencies than West Orange altogether...

Scott,

After doing the aforementioned tweaking and now receiving the W.O. site primarily. I was able to follow the DOT Crews quite successfully during this weekends snow storm. Not quite the clarity of the old 47 MHz analog low-band frequencies but much better improvement in reception all around. Thanks!

I was driving at the time so I didn't catch it.

On a similar note, I caught a radio login for 409607, which should be Cherry Hill.
