Default Somerset County 700 MHZ?

Hearing a rumor that the County is interested in a 700MHZ system.

Anyone else?

PS Infrastructure is being put in place for additional channels on current system (combiners antenna Quantars and such).

I believe that they are staying in the UHF range, just upgrading the system to be narrowband compliant and a P25 system at some point. Any 700mhz frequencies that you may be hearing in the area are most likely the new NJ system coming online.

New repeaters for the 500 MHz expansion are not Quantars - they are the new GTR 8000's.

When the funds allow, all the Quantars will be replaced with 8000's, so that the full system will be Phase-II compliant when the county is ready to switch-up to that (prior to 2018).

I have an inside source that there is a Apco 25 phase-II 700Mhz system in the planning stage and from what I am hearing is that it will be for all the law enforcement agencys in the county. Everything else will be on the UHF system.

Wow... and there are fire departments in this state who can't afford good turnout equipment.

Makes you shake your head.

Default Testing??

Just overheard on OEM Dispatch something about a "one-sided conversation" on the 700 MHz system. I wasn't aware they were already testing / utilizing 700 yet. Anybody have a Phase-II scanner picking this up??

I picked it up, along with county transportation. It sounds like they had the system patched over to talkgroup 1047 on the PSIC system.

I've been watching this all week. It appears that Somerset County Transportation is now operating on the NJSPIC System. Talkgroup is 1047 (P25 Phase 1).

The radio ID range is 1800000 to 1800050, with the base on 1800407

I just heard them say that not all the vehicles have the new radios yet, so this will probably be a transition over the next week or so.

I think we will see Somerset County file a plea with the FCC for waivers (yes waivers shhhh) for their own 700MHZ sometime this year.

Ok ... So according to my contact at OEM ...

"The Somerset County UHF trunking system
is currently operating in two different modes. All
fire and rescue departments still operate on
wide band/analog since the FCC gave a waiver
last summer for operations in the T band which
is above 470 mhz and where we operate. Some
of the County functions (such as Sheriff and Prosectuor)
have switched over to the narrowbanded digital platform,
and new law enforcement agencies which migrate
to the TRS will probably follow suit. Most available
trunking scanners should be able to handle both
of these systems.

TDMA is a new technology which meets the spirt
6.25 khz bandwidth (half of the normal narrowband).
I don't see TDMA on UHF in Somerset County anytime
in the near very future. We are however starting to prepare
some migratiion of new users to 700mhz and that could
well be 6.25 bandwidth using TDMA within two
years, however I don't see fire and ems using
that platform for the foreseable future."

It appears that Somerset County Transportation has mostly moved over to NJPSIC. The County road dept was on the system yesterday on TGID 1041, sounds like they may be next to move.

Right now I am showing about 150 radio ID's for Somerset.

That was 1041 on PSIC right? TDMA traffic on that TG today on Site 101, 2 radios 1800010 and 1800185

1800010 appears to be a patch. I've logged about 20 radio id's on that talkgroup over the last few days.
