Default Union County 700MHz TRS

Union County was doing some "unofficial" testing on the Elizabeth simulcast site late this evening. TG was 1001 (likely a throwaway test group) w/ radio ID 5206...which if they stick to the system would be a Hazmat portable. The system still is set to be P25 Phase II (BRAVO for fixing it in the database admins!). Testing right now is with APX7000 portables, but there's still rumblings about Kenwoods coming into play.

Anybody with PSR-800's, remember to update your firmware so you can receive this system.

Talkgroup 1002 today at 09:31, sounded like testing. Echo leads me to believe inside the courthouse for the Elizabeth simulcast site. Lost the CC after about 10mins, and no signal back yet.

Got a close up look at one of the new radios also. Those APX7000's are huge.

When you've had on as long as I've had mine, you totally get used to it. I mostly run the monoband UHF antenna on mine, because I'll never get used to the the 8" monstrosity that the VHF/UHF dual-band antenna is (and the UHF/800 antenna is the same damn size!).

Which is what the county has on it by the way, is the 8" antenna. Not sure, but I believe it's UHF/700/800. Damn thing is gonna need a restraining strap all it's own in a radio sling. lol. It's understandable why they did it though. Meant to be the all in one mighty interop portable.

Basically looks like testing just the Elizabeth site right now, and shutting it down when they're done. Seems they're just trying to get it working at this point.

That would be correct. Part of the reason for the words "Interoperability". The UC system will technically be part of the PSIC, same as the other county systems will be (or will connect via link). Basically Alpine would be able to interop with Cape May when the whole thing is said and done basically.

Also an update, Elizabeth PD is rumored to be switching to the UC 700MHz when functional. Means they wouldn't be able to hide from Code Blue's on the hotline any more! :-)P

With regards to the new UC system, is the psr800 the only scanner on the market that will be able to pick them up still? Also, which portable radio, the Motorola APX?

APX-7000s with a scale model of the Washington Monument for an antenna.
