Question

For those interested, the American Red Cross, Central NJ Chapter, is using their VHF-Lo freq. of 47.420 PL 146.2 during this post disaster recovery clean up. Most communications will have a distinctive DTMF 4-tone ID before communicating. Interesting observations so far on that channel, when active. Speaking of which, has anyone heard if the American Red Cross has used any of their TG's on the NJ Transit 800 MHz TRS during or after the storm?

NJNG helos have been using 242.2 and out of area helos on 283.0
Seems like they are flying supplies out of Lakehurst NAS.
NJ Forest Fire has water tender and engine strike teams stationed on LBI, Toms River and GNRA Sandy Hook. 159.375 DEP 6. Also saw teams working with DOT and in the state parks.
Years ago, I repaired a bunch of NJNG portable radios that the ground teams use to use. They had a bunch of simplex freqs in the 150 mhz area. (150.3, 150.4, 150.5) But they may have abandoned those for the NJSP 800 trunk. So far, those freqs been quiet up my way.

Lot of activity on C3-8, 8 comm (NJ TRS 36720] tonight. Dozens upon dozens of troopers logging on at Herbertsville. Not quite sure what kind of facility Herbertsville is but it has to be a very busy place. God speed to all those involved in this recovery process.

Usually when troopers refer to "Herbertsville", they are talking about the commercial vehicle inspection center (CVI) on the southbound side of the GSP, in the Herbertsville section of Brick. It was recently renovated. I think they have a building there now.

I think you are going to see C3-8 active for a long time to come. Some groups are using UTAC/VTAC/ITAC freqs. I have only heard the NJNG Armory's doing radio checks, nothing on the other talk groups with the exception of 28976 which was active late last night. I have also heard some sporadic activity on the StateCom talkgroups.

I would have thought they would be using the 700 system, but so far nothing.

FYI -

All FEMA, US&R (FEMA), and other associated assets are going to be UHF (403-430) and are AES encrypted. Frederick MERS is in the area in support of visits from multiple dignitaries and supports US&R comms. Everything from the guy getting the coffee to the guy doing rescue ops are AES encrypted. They are also using OTAR via their Net's which are up.

Listen up to the EMS Task Force TG's, NJSP/EMS Task Force, and NJ US&R ops. There are also some activity on the I/U Tac infrastructure. Not a lot of VTAC stuff unless it's tactical repeater deployments which I hear are in use in certain areas of NY.

In NYC there is a lot of traffic from the local agencies on DoITT 800MHz especially Sanitation (Staten Island and Queens very active) as well as NYC O.E.M. also on the DoITT 800MHz system. DEP is also somewhat active.

Sanitation and DEP have been doing round the clock ops and are working their staff hard. Kudos to them. I have heard nothing on the FEMA channels and TGs I have programmed for NY and NJ but then again, I am using a small indoor dipole at this time :-(

Michigan State Police will be patrolling some of the Northern Counties starting tomorrow. They seem to be operating on Statecom 10

I have been in and out of Seaside, Ortley Beach & Lavalette several times a day since last Thursday. In places it's as bad as you've heard.
About 15 Pennsylvania State Police Troopers mostly in Ford Explorers were working in the area today. The Mathis Bridge (Rt.37) is the main checkpoint out of several around the island. Contractors and Residents are tightly monitored, screened and registered in. All traffic is being routed in and out using the westbound lanes only. The east bound lanes are being jackhammered all over, and a large crane has been working on the drawbridge on the eastbound side.

On a scanning note 28240 Statecom 6 Central is being used for the Mantaloking checkpoint.

Herbertsville is the NJSP Commercial Vehicle inspection/weigh station on the southbound side. It was completely renovated and expanded a couple of years ago with a 3 bay inspection building adjacent to the GSP Maintainance yard. The building was expanded after complaints from bus riders who had to wait outside in the elements while their charter/tour buses were inspected. There is now a "lounge" for them to wait in.

Lakehurst NAS Gate #2 is being used as a FEMA staging/material intake area. Lots of semis in and out, lots of NJNG vehicles in and out. Lots of NJNG vehicles in and helos operating over Seaside. With all the Blackhawks, Sea Stallions and news choppers, it's an active air lane.

Sounds like Monmouth county prosecutors office security is using UTAC 21 (500.2375 118.8) for patrolling of Keansburg and Union Beach. And EMS strike teams are using UTAC 5 on 470.0875 missed PL..
Also caught an alternate NG helo freq of 121.95 yesterday as they went overhead. This one isn't used very often. It appears these helos are flying supplies and troops from NJ to NY as I see them pass over about 3 times per day. Maybe out of Ft Dix or Lakehurst.

Add 123.1 to the helo list. Possibly using this to coordinate with NYPD helos. Just announced he was at Sandy Hook headed southbound.

Bergen County Police Trunk system in the beginning has been very active with several new talk groups in the 100's ( 104, 105 107, 108 111, 113, 114 with patches to local channels ) FEMA, NG, and out of county FD's with boats & EMS units were the most users. But as the water here receded comms have quited down, with 2800 local, county, sheriff officers in the county they freed up State PD to head south....still some logistics comms on TG 501 ....

I forgot to mention the U.S. Navy SeaBees are working in the Seaside area.

At 6:55 pm all radios on C3-8 were told to go to statecom 2 (28144) . They had been operating on statecom 10 most of the day. I guess to be safe all statecom talk groups should be entered.
