Newark Police chase?

I saw this on the news was wondering if anybody heard the chase as it lead to a fatality and what the NPD said over the air as they plowed into that Ambulance?!

NJSP (with NPD in tow) were in pursuit of a vehicle in relation to a shooting/robbery elsewhere in Newark. Suspect vehicle slammed into a private ambulance at high speed, overturning the ambulance and killing one of the EMT's on the rig. The other crew member was seriously injured but not critical. As usual, the suspect was uninjured, and was taken into custody and transported to NJSP Metro North SIU HQ in Irvington.

What a shame!! I thought they were supposed to break off a chase if it starts to get dangerous?!
