Question Getting My First Iphone Soon...any good radio apps?

Well, I'm finally getting my first Iphone and I'm very excited about it. I know there are several police radio apps available on Iphones. Just to clarify, I'm getting the Iphone 4. Can someone recommend any good apps to hear police radio feeds? Also, how do these apps normally work? Can you program specific frequencies you want to monitor within these apps, or choose the exact town or agency you want to listen to? Do these apps include being able to monitor FBI and P25 channels? I just don't want to spend a lot of money downloading several apps, when I will only need 1 or 2 for my convenience. It would be nice to be on the train and quickly be able to monitor NJ Transit comms, without having to carry my portable scanner with me for example. I'm sorry if this seems like a dumb question to some of the experts on here, but I really appreciate any good suggestions on which police radio apps are a "must have". I don't mind paying a little bit for the best possible police apps, as long as it's worth it.

So just for kicks I tried streaming through my cell phone and running the scanner at the same time. Theres at least a 15 to 20 second drag on the app scanner. Maybe I have too much time on my hands.

Question

Thanks for the recommendation Elias. Does Scanner Radio Deluxe allow you to input specific frequencies or does it just monitor all nearby transmissions? Just curious how it works.

It's link to the RRDB. So who ever is feeding is what you will hear.

I have 5 scanner/radio apps in my iPhone 4 and iPad-3rd Generation. My 2 favorite apps are LiveATC and ActnScanner. I also use Scanner911, 5-0 Radio, and Scanner Radio Deluxe.

They all work great on both devices but I must confess that I use LiveATC the most

I use 5-0 Radio Pro. I've used others, but I've found it to be the most reliable, and it includes some exclusive feeds. Worth the couple bucks.

Smart phones just receive the live stream feeds through the app just like listening on your computer. It's like a mini RadioReference (soon to be Broadcastify) in your hand.

You will only hear what is being streamed to the feed. Federal feeds are prohibited so no FBI. You will only hear NJ Transit if there is a feed for them.

It is not a scanner. You cannot enter frequencies or receive transmissions.

I use 5-0 radio Pro as well, it's my personal favorite out of the few I've tried. 5-0 radio I believe also has a free version if you want to try it before you get the pro version if you do, but I would highly recommend the pro version. There's additional feeds as somebody mentioned earlier, and you can also record feeds and search for the feed your looking for rather than having to go through the country, state, county, etc that you do in the free version.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I tried the free 5-0 radio app along with the Emgergency Radio free app and was disappointed with both. I thought more live feeds would be available for my area. If they ever invented an app that includes live feeds for almost EVERYTHING, then I would get it. I saw one app for Central NJ railroads, but I'm not sure if it was for nj transit or not. Maybe in the future, more feeds will be available to monitor. Thanks again for your help!

You could start your own feed with a scanner to your pc. Then you could Listen to it on the app

You can also try the TuneIn radio app. It has scanner feeds in addition to regular radio stations.

I reccomend Scanner Radio Deluxe as well. I use it on my old android phone, tablet, and my iphone 5. Love it. Plus the maker of it is a live audio admin on RadioReference.

I just picked up an Iphone 5 over the weekend. I already use scanner radio but plan to try them all out anyways. Just figured I would see what each one has compared to eachother.
