Is the Livingston site up? Coverage in the Madison/Chatham area didn't improve in my opinion.

I have a Uniden 396xt and i have the Morris County channels on there but they stopped eminating audio after these updates that were made. Specifically i want to listen to MUN PD 5 which is morristown nj so what do i have to do. I dont know how to program it myself so i want to send it out possibly to scannermaster unless anyone knows anywhere closer or better that can program these scanners. Do i just need the firmware updated or do i need to have it reprogrammed to morris county or what? Also does anyone know if there done or when their done with these updates or should i just wait until their done and have my scanner changed then?

On an errand near the site last week I was able to pick up the P25 CC with no antenna. I was not able to get the 3600 CC anywhere in the range of freqs for the system. Not sure how focused a directional would be so I personally can't rule out it being active from this site but to me it seems like a no.

What are you using to receive?
Coverage is MUCH better in the Chathams along the Passaic River.

The problem is some scanners are having a terrible time decoding linear simulcast.

One thought is the reference oscillator crystal in these scanners is not a high stability oscillator. I wonder how far they drift off over time. With linear simulcast the tolerances are a lot tighter.

I'm using a PSR-800 with the latest firmware. Now I'm not using an external antenna, just the standard ducky that came with my PSR-500 and I'm using it sitting in the cup holder while mobile. I have seen improvement in Florham Park.

I'll through my max-mount Maxrad on the car and give it a shot.

Default Reception

There may be an issue for scanners, but for the people who actually have to use the system there was a huge improvement in coverage on the eastern end of the county with the new system and tower.

Yes i have the programming software for the 396xt scanner, I have to set it up with my computer though. Is it possible to receive the new p25 system with this scanner. I was told by an associate of scannermaster that the unidens 396xt would not receive the new system and that i would have to buy a psr800

When it goes P25 Phase II TMDA, then that will be true. Until then....no.

They bought the licenses from Moto to enable TDMA operation on the system, but I believe county agencies are the only users that have APX radios at this time.

I would not worry about TDMA anytime soon on this system - the system is fully capable, but it's not even configured for it (as shown by the lack of 2-slot channel ID tables in the CC data).

It appears my issue may be along the lines of multipath distortion. When the scanner is scanning it never locks onto the CC for the system it just shows NFM. I am in Wash Twp so I don't know if it is because I am in between the West & South towers or not maybe. But I think this is the issue. Any insight is appreciated.

Still having issues. It just won't lock on the CC. I have tried different antennas, settings, etc. It's mind boggling. Here is a short clip of what the scanner is doing.

I am also having issues receiving the Morris County Pro 25 system. I have a RS Pro 106 using a RS 800 MHZ antenna and live in Mountainside. Every now and then I will have 2 or 3 bars indicating that I am receiving the control channel, but very rarely actually hear any transmissions. On the other hand I have no problems receiving the Somerset County Pro 25 system. I get 5 bars and receive the transmissions with a few somewhat garbled. I downloaded both systems from the RR database using ARC500. The only thing that I can think of that might be a problem is that there is a mountain between my location and Morris County. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thank-you.

There is a big difference between Morris & Somerset - Morris is true CQPSK-LSM modulation, Somerset is standard C4FM.

Scanners have a much harder time decoding CQPSK-LSM compared to an actual radio being used on the system (latest scanner firmwares notwithstanding).

I have downloaded the new system into my BCD396T. I receive nothing at all on this new system while I am picking up transmissions with another scanner on the old system so I know there is communications being transmitted. I live about 3 blocks from one of the towers. Any help with this?
