Remember, the transmissions on the old system are NOT being transmitted on the new system and vice versa.
All of the municipal police talkgroups are transmitting on the new system only.
Check your 396T to see if it has the latest firmware. Also the Unidens seem to be more tempermental to receiving the linear simulcast systems.

Both the BCD396T and BCD996T will likely need firmware updates to address LSM. I doubt Uniden will bother continuing to support both those radios with additional firmware updates because they are close to 6.5 years old.
The recent firmware updates for the HP-1, BCD396XT and BCD996XT were specific to the LSM issue and in my experience all worked fine except the one for the BCD996XT. It didn't seem to make any difference and I'm still waiting for Uniden to fix it.

Since installing the newest update to my BCD396XT, I've been having problems decoding both the Morris TRS system and the new P25 system. Sometimes they're garbled pretty bad. On my BCD396T I have it set to Manual 7 and it works pretty well. What would be the closest setting for this on my XT? (Since there's no manual setting)

Radio Shack Pro 2096
anyone know if i will be able to program the new system into a radioshack pro2096? i have the former county digital system, the somerset system and the njsp system in it, those all seem to work fine.
im assuming that the psr scanner layout is similar to the radioshack models as they appear to have the same layout at least looking from the outside in.
should i wait till the whole transition is done before reprogramming the scanners?

rmosier,
Are you receiving the new P25 system on your BCD396?

i have been playing around with this system for a few weeks and had no luck hearing anything. wouldn't lock on the control channel but if i manually held on it the sid would show and the active tg would show. Soon as i hit scan it went back to NFM and no transmissions on my 996xt with a outdoor antenna. After trying everything under the sun i removed the outdoor antenna put the stock antenna on and BOOM i started hearing transmissions. So for the past 2 days with the stock antenna on my 996xt and 396xt i am no longer having any issue at all. On 396xt where i kept it sitting it did not pick up the system at all so i moved it to a different spot and now that comes in fine also. Have any of you guys tried the stock antenna? It could not be working any better for me. Both scanners are using the latest firmware available.

A few days I updated my firmware on the 396xt and programmed the new P25 system. I didnt realize at first that only PD is transmitting on it right now. However i live in Mansfield, Warren County and i have had no problems whatsoever hearing all the channels. IMO it sounds and works so much better then the other system, especially from my location. Any idea when FD will be making the switch?

Yep, My BCD396T decodes Morris P25 just fine. It's my XT I'm having problems with. My 396T is in my Jeep with an Austin Spectra antenna, My XT is my base unit connected to a Diamond discone, 50' of LMR400 coax, at about 60' elevation, located in Mt. Olive. The 396T is set to Manaul 7, I wish I knew what the equivalant setting was on the XT, right now it's set to Auto 8 with a threshold of 80 (but I've tried everything from 10 to 100). It decodes, but nowhere near as well as the 396T.

Try 3 & 50 for parameters on the XT. Also depending on how strong the signal is you might need to attenuate it.

Trying those settings now. I'll let it run for a while before I get back to ya. Thanks Rocket

rmosier,
Is it possible to send a complete list of your settings on the 396? I have downloaded the P25 system into my BCD396, can't receive anything. I live 3 blocks from one of the transmit towers, Not sure why I can't pick up anything

RocketNJ - I started out where you suggested (Level 50, Mode 3). with regard to Morris TRS.. over the past few hours I left the level setting at 50 and changed the mode setting a few times (listening for an hour or so, then increasing the setting) I ended up at a level setting of 50 and a mode setting of 6 with no attenuation. With the P25 system you were dead on! The attenuation made a huge difference. I never expected that. It seems that an RSSI of 225 is the sweet spot? I have no idea why a weaker signal makes it sound better. Thank you once again. Ranger38 - On my BCD396T I have the system set as it was downloaded from RR. (P25 standard trunk) all I changed was to turn on the attenuation as Rocket suggested. My "decode" settings are Manual 7. I hope that helps.

Glad it worked.
Seems the scanners can get easily overloaded and then have difficulty decoding.

It's interesting that my 996T works just fine. I tried programming a few 996XT's today...what a trainwreck. Tried 3 and 50, nothing. Tried to play with 3 and 50 in different variations. Nothing. Tried attenuating the signal (scanner was hooked up to discone 60 feet up), nothing. Just nothing. And yes, it's got the latest firmware that is supposed to work with LSM systems. I programmed a friends 396XT a few days ago, and with the stock ducky, it worked like a charm. It's like the 996XT's are completely deaf to this system. I have yet to try the stock antenna on the back because I don't own one anymore. If that's the solution, then Bearcat better get their act together regarding their firmware and algorithms. Being forced to listen using a crappy stock antenna when you've invested time and money into a decent setup is hardly a solution.

no good for me
I too used to hear the old system fine.
Since the change I have tried everything with my 996xt. no luck.
I suspect Uniden has more work to do.

I'm a little disapointed as well. My old 396T receives the new system better than my new 396XT. What's the deal with that Uniden? I want my manual settings back.

Is there any word on the balance of the channels to be on the new p25 system. I am talking about the ops channels and other items?
