What is the best scanner for the Burlington and Atlantic county area?

I want listen to pd, ems, & fd in both counties.

1.do you want new or used ?.
2. do you want digital ?. it's going to make a difference in what you can hear,and price.
3.do you want a base or handheld ?.
4. what is your projected target price about ?.

This is why I asked what is the best scanner. I would like to hear anything in them 2 counties related to emergency services. I am looking new and a scanner I can program via pc.

o.k., i have to be candid here. you are not really helping me help you. there are going to be parts of atlantic/burlington that you will not be able to hear even with a digital scanner. one of the reasons is provoice. a standard that i don't believe any scanner can handle. the other component is that i think <?> burlington is looking into a 700 mhz. trunked radio system <trs>. take your time,do some homework.
for whatever it's worth, i recommend the uniden base-bcd996xt or the uniden handheld-bcd396xt.

Ok so both the Uniden mentioned will pick up the digital and all the other systems you mentioned?

Most of the Atlantic County Law Enforcement and some Emergency Services are ProVoice digital, which you can not monitor on any commercial scanner. You would need to buy a ProVoice capable radio, and find a shop or obtain the programming software to have the radio programmed for receive only, if you wanted to go that route. Be aware though, that some TG's on the ProVoice system may be Encrypted on top of being ProVoice digital, so you would really need to do your research on that before buying one of those types of radios. Plus, the ProVoice radios can go for several hundred dollars, even a thousand bucks (in used condition), depending on what features they have in addition to ProVoice digital. Unless you have several hundred dollars laying around, I would say you are out of luck for monitoring Atlantic County TRS LE and ES services that use the ProVoice format (unless you wanted to get into DSD decoding software to monitor ProVoice, which is discussed in the wiki).

jblake, i really am trying to help you out. gm, not to get off the beaten path,remember even if you did get a provoice radio, and jumped through all the hoops to get it setup properly, unless it is system approved, you'll probably get it bricked the second you touch it. a very expensive brick !.

EDACS (ProVoice) trunked system radios can be set up for receive only (and not to affiliate or transmit), as I have one set up that way from a reputable shop. Motorola radios are different though. But with Atlantic County's EDACS system, it has many sites that the radio would have to affiliate to, so it's a different set-up than what I have. It is possible to monitor so long as it's not encrypted. Next time I'm down that way for one of my projects, I'll have to investigate what's encrypted, and which is monitorable...

i much prefer a scanner that i have control over. i do and don't like a few features of the hp-1. i do not have one however. i'm also not the most computer literate person. figuring out updates to the sd card would probably give me fit's. i also like being able to program on the fly. just my opinion.

I live 2 miles from Burlington County and 9 miles from Atlantic County. I have a PSR 800 and a BCD396XT. The GRE PSR 800 is an exceptional radio especially with most digital audio that would be a good choice to monitor Burlington. But just on that system for some reason my 396 does a better job than my 800. But keep in mind the BCD396XT cannot do multisite trunking so for both counties you would have to program in the sites separately. If you're also interested on monitoring Camden County I would go with the 800. In the near future Camco is moving to a 700 mhz P25 phase 2 radio system that can only be tracked by the PSR 800. Hi-I get to the point real fast on here. Go with the Uniden BCD996XT base or the Uniden BCD-396XT handheld. For used..check out our classified section or eBay sir.
