That's bull. You can monitor trbo. I've done it. Need a program called DSD on your computer and you need a scanner or some sort of radio that can Rx the freq they use with a decent discriminator tap and you're good to go.

Ok so what your saying is you have sup up your scanner do a illegal tap then run it through a computer to decrypt the encryption? Is this real time or are you hours behind the actual transmissions? Is it that serious for you to listen to mall cops? If I was going to have my ***** I would want to at least listen to the secret service or something like that. Oh how to get around the code or pass key they use?!

There is nothing illegal about decoding trbo. Trbo is not encryption. It's a form of digital just like P25 and D star and VSELP. Yes you can have encryption on trbo but if the transmissions are in fact encrypted then the above method won't work any way.

Color code and time slots are not used for encryption. Color codes in trbo is like a nac code for P25 or CTCSS or DCS for analog.

What the heck are you rambling on about? You clearly don't have a clue how DMR works, so take it down a few notches rather than posting some nonsense rant.

Take it down a notch?! Easy skippy don't get your nickers up in a bunch. What I said was mostly what I read here that you can't listen or monitor MOTOTBRO unless you do what the poster stated. When you say DMR are you referring to Daily Monitoring Report or Digital Moble Radio? Tell ya what I'll let you handle all the questions from now on ok genius. Thank you for all your support and your wonderful New York attitude!! Jets,Mets,Knicks,?!...LOL

Yanks and Rangers, actually.

All I'm saying is to relax a bit. You posted quite a rant back there, making it seem like you need to do something illegal to listen to TRBO.

DMR = Digital Mobile Radio, the standard that MOTOTRBO is built on.

"Tapping" a scanner doesn't refer to some kind of illegal wiretapping, it refers to grabbing the raw, unfiltered FM audio from the discriminator IC and feeding it to a computer where a program can decode certain digital data. Scanner's themselves do this internally with trunked systems, it's how they are able to decode the control channel to figure out how to track the system.

The majority of MOTOTRBO systems are not encrypted, so there's nothing being illegally decoded there either. Just because something is digital doesn't mean it's being encrypted. No scanner has the ability to decode TRBO, but it's pretty easy to decode with the software package DSD.

Last point...there are a lot of TRBO systems being installed for public safety...actual police and fire and whatnot, so this isn't just a case of someone wanting to listen to Paul Blart and his crew at the Garden State Plaza.
