Does anyone know the local aviation frequencies in the area? Also what frequencie do planes switch to when they take off around here?

Yeah I've used this site before, its a good source for airport frequencies but It doesnt give any approch frequencies for the smaller airports like Monmouth Executive except for McGuire approch which I have never hear any of the planse around her on like the little cesnas you always see flying the flags over the ocean and flyin around my house and stuff. There must be some unicom frequncie they switch to.

How far are you from the airport you are trying to listen to? Are u using an indoor or outdoor antenna?

well Im not really trying to hear the airport, but the ones in my listening interest are McGuire and Monmouth Executive which are in a range of about 10-30 nautical miles, and Im using an outdoor discone. I want to know the frequencie the planes use after they take off from the ariport, I know they're must be one since you always see the fighter jets from mcquire when thier after burners kick in and you can see the white stream in the sky, and there is constantly some plane from Monmouth buzzing over my house. I thought it would be neat to listen in on what theyre doing.

That's because uncontrolled airports are just that, no tower, no approach or departure or ground control either.

They don't switch to it, they use it since that's all the airport has.

BTW, beware of those banner towing cowboys, I witnessed some awfully close calls with all the horsing around over Point Beach. When they're not running the beach they're crop dusting, thankfully they're not tanked up with bug spray if one crashes in the middle of town like I saw nearly happen last summer.

Now if you want to see something really spectacular not stupid check them learning aerobatics over the mouth of the Manasquan Inlet sometime. Hey, an air show you don't have to pay for! Best viewed from the Manasquan side though, there you're practically right under them. Stick around for the power boat races, nothing like the roar of a 1200HP engine going by in a flash. Oh, there's a boat under it and they can be heard on marine frequencies, bring your portable but wear an earbud and keep it in your pocket. While not all that likely you can get hassled, they're illegal these days.

Yeah. I have to think we are not reading his message right or something was left out of it when he posted. Handheld scanner illegal? Listening to Marine frequencies illegal?

Monmouth Executive (BLM) UNICOM Frequency is 123.00 AM Mode. AWOS (Automated Weather Observation System) is 121.625. Ride over to airport and find the FBO. Ask for the NY Sectional Chart. It will tell you anything you want to know about aircraft flying in your area. I have the Washington chart and it stops at Trenton and straight across just above Monmouth. Jim
