can anyone tell me if the NMSP are still on VHF? we're on vacation and have been in Las Cruces and now Ruidoso and i've yet to hear anything on any of the frequencies in the RR database. have the SP ops moved to a different mode??

They use satellite coms for their CADS. Might be using that more than voice. They also use duplex. Base is on one freq, mobiles are on another.

hmmmm. i'm using a HH receiver in the camper so i know it's not the greatest but when we were in arizona earlier this month i was able to hear the AZSP on their freqs. just fine...and from quite a distance. not sure which dist. ruidoso is in but according to my info there are dist. hq's in las cruces and roswell...roswell is closer but not hearing a peep.

i did see what looked like a small sat. dish on the roof of the one NMSP sqaud we saw a couple of days ago. i've never seen that kind of setup before. if their voice coms are also via sat. that sure would explain why i'm not hearing anything.
