Hoping that someone may be able to help on how the APD units’ radio codes are numbered.

I did conclude that each command has an assigned number, like 4 for the Northeast area, followed by a patrol area, so a 434 unit would be in the vicinity bounded approximately by Paseo, Montgomery, Eubank and Wyoming.

But is there a list of radio/dispatch codes that shows non-patrol or marked units?

In monitoring APD I’ve heard quite a collection of other codes, some of which include these units: King, 750 series cars, 770 series, FI units, Sam, and others with 3 or 4 character numeric codes.

Back in the Midwest, particularly in the Detroit area, the first designation would be the precinct number followed by the car number. 1 through 15 and 18 through 19 were marked patrol units, 17 would be youth bureau, 20-29 vice and prostitution units, 30-39 plainclothes officers, 60-69 precinct lieutenants, 70-79 sergeants, 80-89 power shift units, 99 prisoner transport and 120-130 precinct crime investigators. So 1-13 and 1-71 would identify the 13th car and a duty sergeant from the 1st Precinct.

Non-precinct units (headquarters, special ops, etc,) use a 4 character numeric code and in some cases the last two digits are used to represent sergeants (70s) and lieutenants (60s). The codes included
2000- Mayor of Detroit 2100- Chief of Police 2200- Commanders

FI or FT units are Field Investigators / Field Evidence Techs.
Sam units are Sergeants.
Lincoln units are Lieutenants.
King units are Area Command Impact units IIRC.

If you have any specific call signs you can't figure out post them up.
