Free Scan Help

I am very good on computers and thought I could get this no problem. I am very new to scanners. With that said, is there a step by step for getting through Free Scan? I'm on my third day and can't get my 346xt loaded properly.Thank You.

Out of curiosity, have you checked all the info on FreeScan in the Wiki? There is quite a bit of info there about it. Check in the Software Applications area: Category:Software Applications - The RadioReference Wiki

I just purchased my first digital scanner and was at first confused as you. I then bought the programming cable and ponied up for the premium subscriber subscription here on radio reference. After downloading the info I needed to my scanner using freescan I can now see how things need to be set up. I learned alot about System, Group and TGID's and how they relate to each other. Becoming a premium subscriber and having full access to the database here I found to be priceless in learning the world of the digital scanner format. Well worth it in my opinion.

I have a Radio Shack Pro have to get the model number, but I'm the same way. I've had the dam scanner and I bought the programming cable and I'm lost. I really haven't used it at all. Seems to complicated. Wish there was a U-tube video or someone in the area (New Lenox Illinois) that could walk me through it. Hell, I'd pay to have it programmed. I'd also like to set up a mobile one in my plow truck for winter time.

It would go a long way for you to post your scanner's model number when you can. There's a lot of people on this Web site that are ready, willing, and very able to answer your questions. Unless you are really cramped for time or something, I would try to talk you into programming it yourself. Doing that on your own is a real ego booster, trust me. Then you would have the experience so you could change things around later if you wanted to.

It would also help if you to returned to your User CP (the left side of the second blue bar from the top of any page if you are logged in) and put your location (city and state) in your profile. Once you fill in your location it will automatically show in each of your posts so you won't have to put it in your posts as you have done here. Many of the questions you will have, and their answers, are going to be location specific and without having your location showing you will be asked over and over again what it is. So ya oughta just fill it in now and be done with it.

Thanks for the advice, I was under the impression that you had to be a member to post a profile or I would have done it immediately. Anyway, I have posted a profile and will mention my scanner model with any posts. Everyone has been very helpful and friendly. I have programmed the scanner with some help from RR. I have been experimenting with free scan and seem to have the learned enough to program through that software. I will ask you one question while I have your ear, Am I able to delete my old posts or do they stay in the RR for anyone that may have the same problem? Thanks again for the advice.

wonabet, it depends on how active the forum is, but eventually, yes, the message will scroll off the active list. If you found some tips on FreeScan that makes it easier to use, feel free to add it to the user guide found in the wiki. That is precisely why it was put there in the first place (and as a side note, that applies to anyone else wanting to add tips or corrections to the user guide).

You have been a member since Sept 2009, the day you registered.

No, unfortunately, you cannot delete them. In fact, you are only given a two hour window (might be three hours - there is some confusion on this point) after making a post to edit it and after that it is out of reach. If you make a post and decide to delete it, you must get to it before the time limit for editing expires and simply remove all the text. Best way is to just let it drift off the page like Mike has said.
