Default Whats the "best" portable shortwave antenna

Let me tell you, I'm using the copper loop antenna from Grundig AN200 and the reception is profoundly better.
Picks up previously unheard reception and does a great job bringing in already audible though distant transmissions. Anything better than this in a portable?

Small loops for portables like this are an excellent choice. There are others- amplified ones from Kaito, for example, but how much better they would be than the Grundig one is I have no idea.

Even the amplified ones have the nominal advantages of loops - they tend to reject certain kinds of noise, and (in some cases) you can move the wire loop around to find a quiet spot. In a hotel or motel, that might be challenging to put it mildly, but at least you have that as a possible help.

I've had reasonable luck with the Radio Shack 20-280 amplified antenna. Also good luck with the clip-on, reel-up type antenna that attach to the whip.

Or, for a lot less money, goto Home Depot and get 20-30 feet of #22 or #24 insulated wire (most stores have some prepackaged) and 2 gator clips from Rat Shack. Clip one end to the whip, and the other to just about anything bare metal. I used to live near a ballfield, and attaching to the backstop worked extremely well, almost too well.
