Default Need Help Picking A Scanner

I am brand new to scanning and am looking to pick up a hand held scanner. Problem is, I havent a clue as to what scanner would be a good one. Im looking for a good recommendation on good hand held that isnt incredible expensive and is somewhat easy to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am sure that this questions is asked hundreds of times.

I would suggest that the first thing you do is explore the RR database for your geographical area to determine whether digital transmissions are in use by the agencies that you want to listen to. Once you make the decision about whether you need analog or digital, the rest of the decision is much easier since each of the three major players--Uniden, GRE, and Radio Shack (selling scanners made by the other two)--has one current portable and one current base/mobile scanner in analog and another of each in digital as the top of their respective lines.

Thank you for the welcomes. I've been doing a lot of reading on here and have since discovered that everything in Tulsa county is analog with the exception of one that can do both. Its encrypted though so i guess that one doesnt matter.
