PSREdit-500, WIN-500, and ARC-500 all have free 30-day trial downloads.

Take your time. These new scanners can be a little overwhelming. Basically you need to forget what you know, and start from scratch. You want to download the control channels (frequencies) only, not all the frequencies listed, for the tower sites you are closest to. Then you need to download the talk-groups you wish to monitor. Then you assign them to ScanList numbers (similar to banks). You need to become a subscriber to Radio Reference to take advantage of the database download feature.

Ideally if you can find someone in your area that is using the same, they might share their data file with you, to get you started. Once you look at how it's done, it makes a lot more sense.

You will find an illustrated "tutorial" at WIN500 - UtahRadio.org that should help you get going. Although you need a Premium Subscription from RR to import from the Database, it is still possible to use WIN500 software to program your scanner manually. Actually, it is much easier using the software than to program manually at the scanner's keypad.

Wirelessly posted (MOT-QA30/00.72 UP.Browser/7.2.7.5.610 (GUI) MMP/2.0)

It has to do witht the steps the scanner takes, IE: 5kh.

I can't remember if you can change step size in that scanner, but that small of a difference shouldn't matter.

The process is called "rounding", the scanner just rounds it to the nearest frequency.

It shouldn't make a difference as I stated already, but if you can't receive, post your problem. But I'm pretty sure you won't notice a difference.
