Default Hi new to forums and scanners

Hi I saw a link to your website and sometimes listen to the feed for my county.
I have no idea how to use a scanner or anything but hope to learn.

Welcome to RadioReference.com

Look at the different scanner models on the Wiki pages.
Uniden, Radio Shack, GRE.
Uniden and GRE makes scanners for Radio Shack.

If you chose to pick out a scanner. Check out the state forum to see what others are using.
Your area might be using Digital audio(P25). So you might need a digital scanner to listen the police/sheriff department.

Just keep looking around RadioReference.com website & wiki. You will find some good stuff to read about. Just ask if you have any other questions.

Welcome to RR.com, Tim5580. You are entering a very "interesting" hobby. You are also going to find out that it helps if you have deep pockets because our equipment, anymore, can get pricey. However, if you keep track of things on this Web site, there are members that will alert everyone when there is a "deal" in the making on some to the things that make our mouths water. You will find that the day of plug-n-play scanners is also gone, for the most part, so having a healthy attitude towards learning will go a long way since most of the scanners require programming nowadays.

Pennsylvania is a very large place so I urge you to return to your User CP (the left side of the second blue bar from the top of any page if you are logged in) and edit your profile to include your location city as well as your state. As you can see, you location automatically shows in each of your posts. Many of the questions you will have, and their answers, are going to be location specific and without having your full location showing you will be asked over and over again what it is. So fill it in now and be done with it.

Again, welcome.

EDIT TO ADD: I suggest that you read Trunking Basics (words in blue and underlined are links to other things) in the RR Wiki as a start. This will give you some background on what we listen to and why programming is important.
