Uniden BCT15X - Live Audio Feed - Florida
Hello to all.
I have been listening to scanners since the late 1980's and I finally upgraded to a new Uniden BCT15X last week.
I have programmed Motorola two way radios (conventional) for years. Never have I seen anything like the BCT15X.
Anyways, I have a Volusia County, FL (S.E. Volusia County) Law Enforcement live feed here on this web site. I went "online" yesterday and it works with a slight delay.
I am new to "hosting" a scanner online, so I don't know if the audio is supposed to be that low on the internet....or is that normal?
I am running ARC-XT PRO with the radio. Without a factory paper hardcopy manual, programming the BCT15X is nearly impossible to program by hand.
Please have a listen to my feed and tell me if it sounds okay. If anyone has any audio tips/tricks, please let me know.
Thanks everyone.

Welcome to RR.com and thanks for being a provider for live feed. Yes, you do have a problem. After listening to your feed and comparing to others, your feed's audio is barely distinguishable. Unfortunately, I do not know how to fix it since I have never gotten into providing live feed.
Just thought you ought to know since no one else has answered your post yet.

Thanks for the info. I can hear my audio feed when I put my speaker volume all the way up. It shouldn't be like that though.
Can anyone else help?

Have you turned up the volume on your scanner a bit higher?

I did, but it doesn't affect the feed volume. I have the cable plugged into my "REC" outlet on the back of my radio and the other end is plugged into the "MIC" outlet in the back of my computer tower.

I'm not sure how it can't affect the volume. Try turning up the MIC settings on the audio control panel?

You may already know this and have tried it, but in case you haven't...
Don't know what type of computer or operating system you're running, but in Vista, for example, there's a setting for the mic level. XP has a similar setting. To get to it in Vista, go to Control Panel --> Sound, choose the Recording tab, double click on Microphone, and then choose the Levels tab.
In XP, go to Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices, choose the Audio tab, in the Sound Recording section, click on Volume. A Record Control mixer panel should open and one of the sliders should control the mic input level.
Hope that helps.
Dick

Hi Dick,
I am using Windows XP. I checked the settings, per your instructions. Everything appeared to be set for the highest levels.
Should I switch the port from the back of the scanner to something other than "record?"

Okay, I think I figured it out. I swapped the plug from the record jack into the ext speaker jack. I cranked the volume all the way up and it sounds MUCH better on the audio feed.
Now, I can only hear my scanner through my PC speakers and that is something that I don't want.
Any ideas? Do I need to purchase another scanner to dedicate to the feed??
(Please take a listen of the feed and advise.)

Just for fun mute the mic in the Windows sound mixer. See if you can still hear it on the feed.
Whatever software is streaming the audio might be using the mic record volume, which is a different volume slider from the mic playback slider.

I adjusted the "mic" record volume higher and it seems to be working great now.
The feed is very active. Please take a listen and advise. Sounds good to me on a laptop on the other side of the house.
Yay! :-)
