Default Newbie

Just a newbie to the forum and wanted to say hey. I have been listening to a local feed for a while, so though I would join up in the forum. In addition to listening through my computer, I listen through my iPhone and have a Radio Shack handheld scanner.

The scanner has been causing me a few problems, so I likely will buy a new one soon, so any input for a basic scanner to listen to local police, fire, ambulance, etc would be welcome. I would like to get a preprogramed one I think as I have not really figured out the trunking features and how to properly program, so again, any input would be welcomed.

Have a good day and Merry Christmas!

Doc,

This is the page for your county:
Greene County, Missouri (MO) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

This is the TRS (Trunking System) that most of your county is on:
Springfield / Greene County Public Safety/Services Trunking System, Springfield, Missouri - Scanner Frequencies

This is the statewide TRS that you SHP is on:
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=6847

You HAVE to have P25 capability to monitor your area!

The following Pre-Programmed scanners will work (They are programmed with literally all the RR database, and you can AUTOMATICALLY update them):

GRE PSR-800 (I would recommend this one, as it does some advanced stuff)
Uniden Home-patrol HP-1 or HP-2 (This scanner has a touch screen)

Those scanners allow you to simply enter you ZIP, and it AUTOMATICALLY pulls up the info for your county and allows you to scan.

Non-Preprogrammed scanners which will work (these scanners have some Pre-programmed stuff, but there's no way to automatically update it, so it will quickly become obsolete, and they might not have your area):

RadioShack Pro-106 (Handheld)
RadioShack Pro-197 (Desktop)
GRE PSR-500 (Handheld)
GRE PSR-600 (Desktop)
Uniden BCD396XT (Handheld)
Uniden BCD996XT (Desktop)

Hope this helps you!

Smile Thanks

Thank you so much for the reply-it is gr8ly appreciated. I have one of the earlier Radioshack handhelds similar to the PRO 106, but it has started doing funny stuff and actually lost all of my frequencies and have had to reprogram once. So I am guessing it is headed down the tube and I need to get another one.

So I will do some shopping and see what I can find with one of the "zip code" styles.

Have a merry Christmas!

Been trying to buy a GRE PSR 500 and was just told GRE might be going out of business. Any idea about that? If it is true, not sure I want to buy one of theirs.
