Specifically, that's a brand of coaxial cable. Times Microwave is the name of the company and "LMR-400" is the rating of cable. Welcome to Times Microwave

LMR-400 is of higher quality and generally used at the higher frequencies (UHF or above) when signal quality is important. The cost is higher but still very affordable even at longer lengths.

Like with anything however, the brand name can determine cost. Generic LMR-400 can be quite a bit cheaper but it's possible that its quality control isn't quite the same.

Due-Dilligence ........ lots of counterfeit LMR400 (200 as well as 600) - most made in the Far East - on the market.

Times [Microwave] are reluctant to say just how much counterfeit LMR is on the North American market, but a friend who works in the IP business says of that sold on eBay and similar online sites targeting in particular (but not only) the hobby/amature community, it's a double-figure percentage!

Heavy discounting is often the give away ..... and what enables the counterfeiters to do this (amongst other tricks) is by reducing the density of braid around the inner conductor, or leaving out the the foil tape that lies beneath the braid.

To clarify the growing confusion, LMR 400 is RG8-AU type foam dielectric cable, RG8-U is solid. To avoid cheap knockoffs and get the same thing buy a major manufacturer brand name such as Belden or Alpha, they publish catalogs with product descriptions you'll find very helpful.
