Default "Blasts" when monitoring frquency

I monitor a single UHF channel for work. Every once and a while the scanner will tune to the channel and "blast" a repetitive sound of noise. I have been around others with radios tuned to the same channel and they do not receive this noise. Any idea what this is and what I might try to do?

Are these blasts pager tones? If the channel uses a CT/DPL tone, try enabling it (if not already).

My local fire/EMS channel uses pager tones before the announcement--quite annoying. Using CT eliminates them.

ampululman, if you're talking about camden county, yes that help's. but most places <at least in nj> broadcast the ctcss/dcs with the tones. my problem is, i keep the volume up to hear the voice message. the audio from the tones are too loud. some town's much worse than other's.
