While the 15X is a very good scanner, it doesn't handle digital systems - and that's a growing topic, even in Central NJ (where in NJ - I'm from Northern NJ myself)?.

I'd go and make yourself familiar with the database and wiki for your area. Go to the NJ forum and ask questions - let the locals guide you, as they know their own systems well.

It's my favorite non-digital scanner. I use mine for basically everything a scanner could be used for. I also have the handheld version which is good but not as good and doesn't have the 225-400MHz milair range. If you end up needing a digital scanner I'd go for the 996XT. It's essentially the 15X but it'll do digital. Also, I recommend using the supplied cable (or purchase the USB cable if you don't have a serial port) and some of the free software avalible to program the unit yourself. It's a breeze with a subscription to RadioReference and it'll be helpful to learn for future use. Plus, you can add and remove what you want from the scanner, whereas if you get it pre-programmed you're limited by what they add.

Well Gents, I just order mine from ScannerMaster. I also order the Pro CD, 180 days script for RR, and the USB connected. So when i get it next week i hope you all will be around to help me get it program. As WAScamMan stated it would be better that i learn how to do it myself. So, I have a few days to read up about RR and also to activate my account... Any info you think i will need please feel free to let me know.. Thanks all again, Steve, Ocean Twp, Monmouth County, New Jersey..
