Hi,
I'm not new but I couldn't come up with a better place to post this.
Can anyone identify this scanner?
Someone had posted it for sale on a website but gave left very little info.
This is just my curiosity getting the best of me but I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Its a Baofeng

Its a 2 meter/440 ham transceiver. They are very popular portable units and sell for around 35 to 60 bucks on ebay.

Thanks

Thanks
Sorry I missed the title bar information the first time I looked at it.
I always keep an eye on Craigslist and it really seems like people are asking way too much for radios most of the time.
Someone was asking $80 for this one.

Yeah,It will scan,If it will program CT/DPL you could consider it a HT/Scanner.
My Alinco G5 & G7 are loaded with my local CONV channels along with my
work channels.
Most will have a scan function to some degree...the scan speed is usually a
factor - HTs will have a slower speed than dedicated scanners.Which,in my
opinion is more crucial for scanning airbands or if you have 100+ freqs you
monitor locally.Even then many scanners will only scan 80-100 cps..so an
HT scanning 25-50 cps if you have 100 freq's your talking 2 to 4 seconds to
check em all..

thanks for the info

Thanks for the info.
I wasn't planning on buying this one. I was just curious since it was listed as a scanner (receiver) and I didn't recognize it at all.

Those cheap HTs scan slowly, but they work very well for monitoring a few channels as a dedicated scanner. For example, I use a tyt handheld to monitor my local police and ems frequencies. It just sits on each one all the time until I need to use it on 220. Of course there is no tx frequency programmed on the public safety frequencies to be safe.

Baofebg etc.

None of the amateur HT's I have seen (I own over 40) are good scanners, and except for those using D-Star or the new Yaesu format have no digital capability. For monitoring a few conventional frequencies within their range, they are ok. Beyond that, they are cheap and mostly difficult to program without (and sometimes with) software. Buy a real scanner or a good used one for real listening.

FYI, the yaesu vx5, vx6r aren't bad when it comes to scanning as long as you are scanning conventional only freqs. Aircraft scanning works pretty well too on these. ;)

oh you can scan with a UV-5R. That is when it isn't breaking squelch or getting stuck. I own 2. They are ok for radios as you get what you pay for, but I'd buy a real scanner if you want a scanner. Faster scan rate and considerable less headaches
