newbie with some problems whilst living in spain

hi all........i own a baofeng uv5r and also a cb radio motorola 48 excel
both are new and i have a 6ft antenna on the car for the cb radio
problem is i cant pick up anyone on any of the two ???
i live outside benidorm and half way up a mountain with miles of clearness around,eg no trees or high buildings...........but i still cant pick up anyone on the baofeng or the cb radio?
any advice???thanks

You may want to ask in the European country forum further down the forums page for better info
