Question Digital or Analog

Hello, I'm trying to get into scanning in my area in rural northwestern NC. Ashe county NC to be exact. I have looked at the database, but don't know what is digital or analog. Or what type scanner I would need in this area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It would be helpful if you could list what specific agencies you want to listen to.

The Ashe county local agencies would be analog, but the statewide VIPER system will be mostly digital and some agencies are encrypted - so you won't be able to monitor those talkgroups.

Hope this helps a little.

Russell

Per the Live Audio Feed on Broadcastify, it appears Ashe County is on an Analog System.

I'm mainly interested in Fire, EMS, Sheriff and local town police of Jefferson and West Jefferson.

Alright, it does seem that that will all be operating on the Analog System.

I also have a old Bearcat crystal scanner here I would like to see operational again. Is there any place that still carries crystals for them?

Well, you'd like to get it working for the area you are in correct? What Specific Channels would you want on it?

Here is the link to the Ashe County Fire-EMS-Law Frequency Listing:
