Hi. I was licensed in the late 60's at the age of 12 w/ GC class license and operated a few years with pleasure. Now wanting to get back into ham radio. Times have changed, of course.

Am seeking suggestions for relatively recent transceivers that have digital displays and also capable of receiving shortwave broadcast. I like listening to such. Don't want to mess around w/ a separate receiver and transmitter.

My requirements are:

1) Transmit on ham bands, but receive general coverage shortwave.

2) Be within 250 to 750 dollars on the "used" market.

3) Have a digital tuner.

4) Be 100 watts or above.

5) Ideally, have an antenna tuner for random wire SWR tuning or compatible with a Matchobox.

Thanks for your consideration and patience.

Andrew of Iowa.

A Kenwood TS-850SAT would be a good one to look at. Great receiver, and go for around $600-700 used.

I guess it depends on what Ham bands you want to transmit on. My Icom 718 is a great little general coverage receiver and transmits on 160, 80, 40, 30, 20, 12 and 10 meters. No FM for receive or transmit and limited to 30 MZ at the top end.
