If you are using Windows 8.x and order a USB-1 cable (your best option), be sure the USB-1 cable has the HXD chipset.
Older USB-1 cables have an HXA chipset that doesn't get along with Windows 8.x without a lot of fussing.
You can confirm this by asking the place from where you order the cable.
Also, something that can't be stressed enough, be sure you download and install the driver for the cable before connecting the cable to the computer for the first time. You'll save some headaches.
