I see a lot of posts about scanning in here. I'm interested in getting into ham operation and was looking for some direction and figured this might be a good place to start. Going to be running the Baja 1000 again next year and have to outfit our chase vehicles with mobile ham radios. Found them to be pretty sweet and a life saver during our last run down the peninsula. Looking also to get into licensed use here in the states when I pick up the equipment.

Thanks,

Kix

There is a section on this site for amateur radio. Getting a technician license to use 2 meter equipment is fairly easy. I suggest looking for a HAM radio club in your area- they will have the know how to get you going and will be glad to assist.

You will need a permit to operate in Mexico with a US license. The ARRL website has the info on reciprocal licenses and operations in other countries. Some are very straightforward and some are not. Operating unlicensed in Mexico may not be advisable.
