I currently am a part of my employer's emergency team for our ~300 person office building. We currently have about half a dozen Baofeng 888s we use to communicate however we have recently been informed that these may be illegal(US) and are probably way too much radio for what we need anyway. We use them at most a few times a year and strictly as walkie talkies for the team to coordinate.
My question is two parts:
Are these illegal?
What are some good alternatives? Cheap but reliable units that sit in a cubicle in a 3 story 200 x 100 commercial office building that don't move for months at a time. They stay on but charging(the 888's have great little charging cradles).
