Hello,

I am a new amateur radio enthusiast and hoping to get my license in the coming weeks. Currently reading the textbook. I am mostly interested in following national park information and particularly wildlife watching information. What would you recommend regarding the best set up. I bought a Baofeng F8HP to get started and plan to get another as a two-way radio once licensed. Any info would be greatly appreciated. There is just so much to know!!

Thanks

Keep studying and get your license, you won't regret it. As far as the National Park system...most are total digital (P25) so you won't be able to receive them with the Baofeng. Some parks (eg. Yellowstone) still use analog because digital would not be 'cost effective'. Wildlife watching varies on the location between analog and digital. Most communications are short, to the point, and sporadic depending on if its governmental, educational, or private.
