Default Nassau and Suffolk County Frequencies Needed - NYSP and Sheriff

A few things out of the way so you guys don't blast me out too bad.

1. I'm new to the forum - just registered today.
2. Yes, I've used the search feature to locate but I'm still confused about some frequencies and agencies.
3. I have already searched google as well.

Ok specific questions.

1. Does anyone know what the NYSP frequencies are for Nassau County?

When it comes to NYSP, I'm really confused. I thought NYSP was operating on a digital communications infrastructure? I have seen so many posts up to 12/2008 about the NYSP VHF frequencies and how often they've been changed around from simplex to duplex etc. I have no idea which ones are working at this point but this morning, I combed through some of the later 2008 posts and tried every VHF frequency listed but didn't receive a second of conversation after monitoring for an hour.

2. Does anyone know the Nassau County Sheriff frequencies?

All of the frequencies I've reviewed online using google do not seem to work. I've had them programmed into my 246t for awhile. Can anyone confirm active frequencies these guys?

As of now here are the agencies I have entered:

- Nassau PD
- Suffolk PD
- Fire Departments around both counties.

If anyone has any other cool or interesting agencies or frequency updates to share in Nassau and Suffolk, please do .

Thanks a bunch!

State Police in Nassau mainly patrol the state parkways. They can be heard on 155.46, 155.505, and 158.835. Some times the trooper coming on a shift doesn't know which he'll be using! The County Sheriffs use the county EDACS TRS. That info can be found in this data base.

You can also go to www.w2lie.net and find a boat load of frequencies for both Nassau and Suffolk County.

Thanks for the plug, but except for a couple of trunked systems, I don't cover NYC or Long Island. I leave that up to Charles, N2NOV at his site www.n2nov.net .

Sheriffs mostly work during business hours transporting prisoners from the jail to Court, so you won't hear much at night or on weekends.
No one knows what the new NCPD system will be yet, it will be digital 500 Mhz, but encryption is still not known. With the state of the economy, it is a fair bet that they won't be paying for anything extra for a while at least.

scosgt:
NCPD's new system will be Digital P-25.
I have the system on decode right now at my house using a PRO-2069 and PRO96COM.
Pro96Com only decodes P25 Trunk system, and I am getting valid hits.

You can read my updates on the system as well as screen shots here: Long Island Live Scanner Feeds: Forums / Long Island - Nassau / New NCPD Systems OBSERVATIONS

Justabum,
I have a channel layout for NYSPD Troop L here: Long Island Live Scanner Feeds: Content / Frequencies / Troop L Radio Layout

Program those into your radio and see if you pick anything up.
Keep in mind that all their freqs except for the "NC RPT" are Duplex / Simplex.
You need to scan both sides of the freq to hear both sides of the conversation. I program my NYSPD Bank with NO DELAY on each freq. If you are far from the vehicles, or using an indoor antenna you may not hear the mobiles talking back to base.

What we don't know is if it is full time encrypted.
The CC is not too strong is western/south shore Nassau

I logged 2 talkgroups on the radio, but haven't captured any audio for it as of yet.
It seems like they just take 2 radios and do a quick test.

Seems like they test 1 day a week on average

Suffolk County Sheriff's patrol the Suffolk County highways. They can be found on the Suffolk County trunked system; Talkgroup's 00848 (Dispatch) and 00880 (Car-to-Car).

"Sierra" = Sunrise Highway Sectors
"Echo" = Expressway (LIE) Sectors

Hope this helps
