Gents,

Came across this listing on ULS the other day.

ULS License - Public Safety Pool, Conventional License - WQKG975 - NEW YORK, CITY OF (POLICE DEPARTMENT)

It seems as though NYPD had been granted a license for some UHF frequency pairs.

The question is.. Why the Peekskill Benefeild water tank, some 40 miles north of the city?

Do they need a simulcast site up there with recievers that far out?

Or is this a trunked or crossband system for interop?

Spec, Scandal, any thoughts?

Those are the frequencies used for all of the Boro and the CW InterOps. Interesting.

Perhaps they are used by detective group...Lots of times followups miight be somewhere else in the state or region. This gives the police communication for a wider area to help them..

I believe that this is part of an Inter Op plan. A few years ago the NYPD stated that it was going to do something like this to communicate with it's neighbors. I am trying to google the article!

Re: New York, City of (Police Department)
UHF-T Band Application
Gentlemen:
Attached is a copy of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) among the
New York City Police Department, Nassau County Police Department, and
Suffolk County Police Department.
These agencies are part of the New York Metropolitan Advisory Committee
(NYMAC). The NYMAC is a user group that coordinates communications
interoperability in the 482-488 MHz band in the New York City
metropolitan area. NYMAC has established regional interoperability
channels in the band and is in the process rolling out radio sites.
The MOU was created to facilitate orderly use of the channels, to prevent
interference, and to serve as a mutual letter of concurrence for licensing the
following frequencies by the respective agencies:
• 482.6875 / 485.6875 MHz
• 482.7125 / 485.7125 MHz
• 482.7375 / 485.7375 MHz
• 482.7875 / 485.7875 MHz
• 482.8125 / 485.8125 MHz
• 482.8375 / 485.8375 MHz

Just a shot in the dark but NYPD uses Camp Smith heavily for training purposes maybe its so their radios still work when they are training up there.

The training at camp smith has nothing to do with this license. The croton water system is protected by the NYC DEP who is on Goosetown's Passport system which is linked to the DOITT 800 system. This is an inter op setup.

yup
I think there have been a couple of new licenses for this recently. Maybe 2 or 3 in Westchester County IIRC. Peter sz
